Athletics account posted on X that the Hockey 101 event scheduled for this Saturday has been postponed.

I was hoping that event still happening meant press conference tomorrow.

There’s a little more than a week to go before the first lineup is released and we figure some things out.

Nuts. Email this afternoon about parking included a reminder about Hockey 101
With the season ticket holder party also postponed, 101 was our excuse to drive north this weekend.

They better figure this thing out if they want a run at their 3rd place trophy and winning nothing in the post season.

A collective sigh of relief goes through the Athletics administration. Get the weekend off and further hide from the questions. Added bonus, additional time to exercise/make money.

Do you not have an answer to my question?

No generic complaints about his kid on the hoops team, no generic complaints about the con man. Be specific. I'm asking because I honestly don't know but it appears you do. So spill it.

When you're an administrator with responsibility over a specific program..the question isn't "How could you have prevented it'. The question is "how was this culture allowed to take hold"
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

I have no passion one way or another for the administrators and take it as an act of faith that posters on this board (including guest) know more than I do about the inner workings of the athletic department. It's that I've just grown so weary of guest's drive by's. So if you're going to bash somebody, you better bring the receipts or get called out.

And I'm still looking for a reply from guest on specifically what Elsasser should or should not have done besides the "gee, the guy shouldn't have gone to the gym as many times as he did." I'm an admitted moron on the topic of Jim Elsasser so educate me with your big brain.

I can't believe I'm actually about to post this. But, why not?

Elsasser was there the year Buddy was hired as head coach (94-95). Since finishing 2nd in the CCHA that year, with a Hobey winner, we've watched the team fall greatly during Buddy's tenure, never really any success under Paluch (sharpie gate 1.0), program to the brink of being eliminated, "miraculously" saved due to the threat of elimination (still certain that was a fundraising idea), make it back to the NCAA Tournament, to then wind up here.

See, this is the kind of stuff I'm talking about. I'm on board with having the guy fired if there needs to be accountability. So instead of saying person A is a con man with no factual attribution provided or person B goes to the gym too often which is simply a personal slam, can we just state the case?

Thanks pdt.

Now, all that said, how much freedom do you give your coach to run his program? Obviously, he's not a micro-manager. But at the same time, 3 of 4 coaches have turned into dumpster fires under his watch. I don't know the scope of his position to even say he is a "supervisor" to the coach.

Oh they were going to cancel the program…the only reason it was saved was because Cartwright didn’t want to be known as the President who axed 2 D1 hockey programs (Kent State being the other). Cartwright put it on Christopher to come up with the money to keep the program.

The Bring Back the Glory campaign basically brought in nothing. A few of the normal donors stepped up, but all the real money came from gutting the scholarships of the non-revenue sports (baseball in particular). Alums didn’t trust Christopher and mostly refused to donate, so he decided baseball wasn’t going to get him out of BG and essentially gave the program a death sentence (Coming off titles in 2008 and 2008).

Personally I don’t think you’ll see hockey or men’s athletics do consistently well in general until they reinvest in baseball and improve their facility. You can’t destroy your most successful men’s sport from 1995 to 2015 and not expect some bad karma.

Hold on, Jim E. was an assistant AD in charge of hockey that whole stretch? And assistant AD’s get to cut the programs that they oversee? I think some trains have completely derailed on this thread.

I can’t remember when he was promoted but I do know he was not hired into this position in ‘95.
