Cole Named Assistant Hockey Coach
Danton Cole joins head coach Scott Paluch and assistant coach Ron Fogary.

"BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Danton Cole has been named assistant hockey coach at Bowling Green State University, BGSU head coach Scott Paluch has announced. Cole replaces Jamie Dumont, who was named associate head coach of the Junior Pirates' AJHL team.
"I couldn't be more excited about joining Scott and Ron at Bowling Green," said Cole. "It is a great opportunity for me and my family to join the tradition with the Falcons."
Cole comes to BGSU after serving as the head coach of the Motor City Mechanics for the past two seasons, where he compiled a 58-32-6 record.
"We are extremely excited to have Danton Cole join us here at Bowling Green," said head coach Scott Paluch. "Danton brings a wealth of professional coaching experience and a great understanding of what it takes to be successful at the collegiate level."
Prior to his time in the Motor City, Cole served as the head coach of Grand Rapids (AHL) for three seasons (2002-04). In his three seasons with the Griffins Cole recorded 133-85-18 (.602) record.

Cole received his first head coaching duty in 2001-02 with the Muskegon Fury (UHL), where he helped lead the team to a 48-22 overall record, as well as a league championship.
A native of Pontiac, Mich., Cole played four seasons for the Spartans of Michigan State. In his four years with MSU Cole compiled 163 points (69g, 94a) in 180 games and was drafted by the Winnipeg Jets in the 1985 NHL Entry Draft. The 180 games played as a Spartan is still a school record.
Cole played 11 seasons of professional hockey, including stints with the Jets, Tampa Bay Lightning, New Jersey Devils, New York Islanders and Chicago Blackhawks and winning the Stanley Cup with the Devils in 1995. Cole amassed 118 points and 125 penalty minutes in 318 NHL games."

This is HUGE for the Falcons! I've followed Danton from his days with Grand Rapids of the AHL to the head coach of the Motor City Mechanics of the UHL. This guy knows his hockey. This is a major coup for the program. I hope (and expect) the boys to listen to him. This addition makes our coaching staff absolutely outstanding now (as if it wasn't before)!

Danton Cole was a quality college player, even if it was with MSU. Always admired him. This is great news for BG!

By all accounts Danton Cole is just what the Hockey program needs. Actually his Bio reads more like a HEAD coach than an assistant.
"Danton Cole was selected in the 6th round of the 1985 NHL Entry Draft, 123rd overall, by the Winnipeg Jets.
Rather than attempt to turn pro at 18, Cole enrolled at Michigan State University. In his rookie season he scored 21 points in 43 games and helped the Spartans to the NCAA championship title. By his senior season, Cole scored 29 goals and 62 points.
At 21, Cole was ready to turn to professional hockey and played in 80 games with the Moncton Hawks, scoring 31 goals and 73 points. He was called up to Winnipeg for two games were he notched a goal and an assist.
In 1990-91, Cole appeared in 66 games for the Jets, scoring 13 goals and 24 points. In 1992-93, Cole joined the Tampa Bay Lightning where he played for just over two years. He had his best offensive season in 1993-94 when he scored 20 goals and 43 points in 81 games. Near the conclusion of the 1994-95 season, he was traded to the New Jersey Devils, who went on to capture their first Stanley Cup that spring.
Cole next saw NHL action in 1995-96 as a member of the New York Islanders. After ten games, he ended up in Chicago with the Blackhawk’s. He continued his pro hockey career in Germany for a year before returning to North America where he suited up for the Grand Rapids Griffins through the 1999-2000 season.
Upon retiring at the end of the 1999-2000 season, Cole was hired on as an assistant coach with Grand Rapids, a post he held for two seasons before becoming the head coach of the UHL's Muskegon Fury. After leading Muskegon to the UHL Championship, Cole returned to Grand Rapids as head coach in 2002-03."

This is impossible. Why would a guy of that pedigree come and coach along side our pour game managing hot-head of a head coach?

Cole sounds like a quality coach and individual. His resume is pretty impressive! As much as we despise MSU, they've had a great tradition for years.

Just by looking at his experience why would he want to be an assistant at BG? He was coaching in the AHL, one level below the NHL and several above DI. Grand Rapids has a brand new 10,000 seat arena and has great fan support. Now he is an assistant at the last place team in the CCHA which needs to fill in some pot holes in the parking lot still this summer. This moves seems somewhat fishy. Definetly an upgrade for us though, he should be moved to head coach and Pooch to assistant.
Once every now and then a Lexus manager in Chicago will relocate to North Baltimore and sell used Dodge pickups as an assistant manager

FYI - I know the Dodge dealer in North Baltimore and I doubt he'd hire some big city yokel.
