Matsumoto was drafted in the third round today by Philadelphia. Congrats. Most draft experts had him going between rounds 5-7. Do you think Matsumoto will be a Falcon next year or will he start his professional hockey career?

It would be best for him to stay and develop here a little more.

Maybe so, but that's a lot of good money to turn down...

Being drafted and being offered a contract are two different things. If Philadelphia thinks Moto can help them now, they'll offer him a job. If they would rather watch him develop at BG, that's what he'll do.

Does anyone know if a pro team can communicate directly to a NC$$ player, or do they use some sort of middleman "advisor"?

Pro teams can communicate with the player directly. That is not against NCAA rules, they are expected to contact the player after drafting him. They also can make contract offers through a "family advisor". I wouldn't be suprised if Moto signs to play in the A next year.

Congratulations Moto ... now Go for it!!

Moto has an opportunity of a lifetime and should the Flyers need him I think he would be foolish to wait another year. He's no "rocket scientist" and is not looking to academia as a future career.

No doubt if he stay's he will be appointed Captain by virtue of being drafted. That would be a mistake because he is disliked by his teammates and his two underage drinking and one theft charge last season seem to indicate a propensity for poor judgment rather than leadership qualities. I realize, however, that common sense seldom prevails in these matters.

As they say in the classics, "Character counts".

Do you think he hasn't learned from his mistakes? One would hope so. I choose to believe that he did. Sometimes what doesn't kill us makes us stronger and better. Whether he is a captain or not, I only wish that he has learned from past questionable choices (and we all make them!!) and that he has a phenomenally successful year!!

What is that from? It sounds very familiar, but I don't want to take a stab at guessing it here and embarrassing myself...

Falcon Blue-

Whoa! I don't know about anyone else on this board, but I know I've been trying to keep my nose out of all of this stuff bashing players/coaches, etc. But, I have to respond to this about Moto and his past. I have no contact with Moto directly, but I thought I should set you straight on a few things.

1) Being Drafted doesn't equal being a captain. Look back at our draft lists and compare them to who the captains have been in the recent past, I don't think that those lists would have many common names.

2) In the past 5-10 years, the team had someone who I would consider to be an EXCELLENT captain, someone who gave 110%, despite injuries and lack of talent around him. This person was arrested for an underage consumption charge his freshman year, should we have kept him from being captain? I don't think so!

3) I don't have a single clue if the team likes or dislikes Jonathon. I will tell you something though, from an outsider, Jonathon is one of the ONLY players who I personally saw give his 110% during NUMEROUS games this year. He was among a handful (probably about 5) that gave a rats butt what happened during the games at Notre Dame this year. I know this to be true, because I was there and I was sitting 3 rows behind the bench.

Who is one of the biggest "cheerleaders" on the bench, or on the ice? I'd venture to say that it's Jonathon. Does this mean he should be a captain? I don't know...but I have been watching this game for 30 years and I'll tell you that at certain times this year, I turned to other 30+ year fans and said "Jonathon Matsamoto is coming into his own, that's the type of stuff a captain would do." Would I vote him as captain? Who knows, but I can see where others would.

Ok, I'm crawling back under my rock now...perched firmly on the fence, undecided at this point which side to believe. As I firmly believe that there are two sides to every story and the truth lies between them, we all just need to find out where our truth lies.

GO FALCONS!
I can't wait for the season to start...IS IT OCTOBER YET???? :P

Being drafted is not even close to being a reason to be named captain. The captain does not need to be, and rarely is, the leading scorer on the team. The captain is someone who is a leader in the locker room, weightroom, on the ice, and off the ice.

Paluch would probably name Matsumoto captain just to keep him from going pro, but that would be a bad decision. This would be an action, similar to others that he makes as a coach, that causes players to lose respect for him as a coach. The players should have the opportunity to decide who acts as the captain, unfortunately that is not always the case when hidden agendas are involved.

"They teach you how to underline in college."

How many times do you have to watch a classic hockey movie before you have it memorized?
