CCHA predictions

Post by Lsquared »

idk about you guys, but i am very excited about this upcoming year. we will definately challenge for the ccha crown with matsumoto coming back for another year. moto, petruska, kantola, svendsen, whitmore are going to score some major goals for us and our defense will be one of the tops in the conference. maxwell coming in will provide a big boost for our D. i mean, he started, yes started for maine in the 2005 national championship game. spratt has a year under his belt and will be very improved. he also doesnt have anybody behind him to worry about. the job is his, and he will keep it. with all that being said. heres my predictions for this year. call me a homer but:

1) ohio state
2) miami
3) BOWLING GREEN
4) michigan state
5) michigan
6) northern michigan
7) lake superior state
8.) nebraska-omaha
9) alaska fairbanks
10) ferris state
11) notre dame
12) western michigan

basically.... ohio dominates all

It's because the typed symbol for that icon is an 8 followed by the right parentheses. Whenever you type those two together on this board, you get: 8)

The team (along with a few alums) had a game/shinny-type skate last night. Both new goalies (Eddie Neville & Phil Greer) looked pretty good, though it's hard to judge in that kind of "game." Both had some really impressive stops. Spratt looked good too.

GO FALCON HOCKEY!!

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

While I would love to see this happen, there's something telling me it won't end this way. Your top 5 may be correct, but the order will more than likely be different. scUM or MSU will be in the #1 or #2 spots. Will they deserve it? That's something that will be answered as the season goes on, but I have seen some horrid teams from that state magically end the season in the top 3.

I also think you might have BG a little bit too high. There's an awesome class coming in, but we will be a young team (growing pains). Baby steps is the name of the game. Two years from now this team will be a legitimate contender every year. I'm not saying we don't have a chance to bring hardware home this year, I'm just thinking realistically.

Home ice will mean everything to us. Loud, full games at home will be dominated by us and nobody will be able to skate with us. Small crowds will hurt a lot. I'm really excited about the recent talks of organizing the student section and this will give us the home ice advantage that has been lacking as of late.

My prediction for BG is a high of 3rd and a low of 7th. Every other team is anyones guess (see LSSU last year). I think there will again be one or two teams that run away from everybody and two or three teams that everyone else runs away from. I won't even hazard a guess as to which teams these will be. Between 3rd place and 9th place it will be anybodys game. The CCHA boasts the most parity of any league and I don't see that changing this year.

Oh, and to eliminate the 8), just click the "Disable Smilies in this post" box below the text box when typing a post.

1. Michigan-had an off year last year but lets face it they own the CCHA
2. Mighigan St.- a top 10 finish and adding 2 NHL drafted freshman
3. Miami- Even without Zatkoff next year they have a proven goalie
4. UNO- Without Thomas no longer in a fight for the title, but still elite
5. Ohio St.- Markell's teams always rank high then choke just like last year
6. Northern Mich- both keepers are back
7. BGSU- if Matsy is back a spot at 5 but without him Spratt better play like the NHL drafted goalie we thought we snagged(i know he's still young)
8. Fairbanks- we always get some jetlag wins (why arent they in the WCHA?)
9. Farris St.- the loss of Steffanishsion to the NHL hurts
10. Notre Dame- need a keeper bad
11. Lake St.- Lost alot to the NHL and graduation
12. Western Michigan- sorry broncoes

I have always thought that's where they belong, but I am sure the WCHA doesn't want to have two teams up there to travel to!! One trip is bad enough!!!! Personally, I think they should just go "independent" and play anyone!
