Ice Arena/New boards/glass

Post by falcons86 »

Hi everybody! My wife and I went to the open skate at the Ice Arena last Thursday night. The new boards and glass look great! The glass is kinda that seamless glass, no more big metal stanchions (sp?) to get in the way. But I did try it, it gives alot too. The biggest thing I noticed is that the benches each of have a door to them now. You know the little area between the benches where photographers sometimes sit, well on each side of that little area there is a door leading to the benches. And the other thing is the penalty box/scorers table/PA area. It's huge! The penalty boxes each have to be at least 3 to 4 feet longer on each side. And they took out the first row of wooden chairs, so it's much deeper than it used to be. This is going to be very cool for me and the guys working in that area, last year we had to climb over each other to get in and out of there. They are having some issues with some of the doors. I couldn't get the door open to the penalty boxes and the door where the teams go on and off the ice won't close (I tried it). I'm sure it's some adjustments that need to be made. Also, the Falcon Head at center ice is really cool. For you purists, it's still the old Faclon head, but it's completely Orange and Brown, kinda like the Falcon head on the home sweaters from last year. It looks really good. Man, can't wait for the hockey season to start.

GO FALCONS!!!!

Did we get a big donation from Matt Eldred?

Maybe a little more paint on the walls, replace some of the banners and the Ice Arena can be one of the finer arenas in the area.

So could anyone sneak in and grab some photos......?

I nominate BO to be checked by Unger into the new boards.

Do you really want to have to replace them again?

According to the article in the paper, if I recall correctly, the whole penalty box, scorer's table area isn't longer, just wider (with the first row of chair seats out). They shortened the area that the players sit in (by 18 inches, I think) to make it longer for the game workers. Gone are the days when 4-5 could sit in there comfortably!! :-D Also, they raised the glass between the benches where the photographers would hang out. I think it's as tall as the rest of the glass around the arena sides. Too bad they will probably ruin the great look of the new boards by putting advertisments on it. Being all white right now makes the ice look HUGE!!

Hmmm....wonder where Bill Lloyd's going to sit now????? 8)

Was it national "Pick on the Fat Kid Day" already? I usually have that day clearly marked on the calendar so I remember to hide in my closet with a magazine and a bottle of lemonade all day.

Man that first row of Chairs is where I sat as a kid..pulling on jersys and tieing knots in them so the guys would have dificulty in standing up..heck on night a Laker came down at me with his stick, that was something. I am goning to have to swing in tomorrow...
wish they would have taken out some rows of seating to expand the ice surface..but we will save that for the new arena...nice piece of international ice in that bad boy  for some wide open hockey.
Brown ice? dont know about that, need to see it.

Ice Arena is closed for the 4th of July. It will reopen on Wednesday.

As for the expanded penalty box area, I believe a video replay official needs a seat in there so it won't be as roomy as expected.

You're right about the video replay! I had forgotten about that!
