First Contact Hockey Camp

The BG hockey community needs to award a giant ATTA BOY to Ron Fogarty. A huge Atta Boy to Scott Paluch, Danton Cole, Buddy Powers and the Ice Arena Staff.
You will parode me if I do not get all the facts 100 % correct.
The first that a NCAA coach can contact an 1989 born hockey player is July 1st of the year in which the hockey player will turn 17. Last year Ron established a hockey camp for 16/17 year olds on July 1st. This year was the 2nd annual 1st Contact Hockey Camp. It is held at the BGSU Ice Arena.
Attending this camp are some of the best 180 young; potential D - 1 hockey players in North America. There were players from Maine to Texas;
Surrey to St Louis. That also means maybe 100 hockey families that come to the City of Bowling Green, and the campus of BGSU.

I stopped in from time to time to watch. There is some real talent out there. I would recommend hockey deprived locals to stop by next year.
I never once heard a complaint. The arena looks great.

It was 168 players (minus 4 that didn't show). The second camp begins next week on Thursday and ends on Sunday. This is run by Ron Fogarty, not BGSU. It's only "housed" at BG. He rents out the facilities, dorms, etc. Channel 13 did a short piece on it last Friday or Saturday. I didn't get a chance to see it, though I heard it was well done. Excellent opportunity for very high level, high school aged talent, to be seen by NCAA coaches!

how many of the 168 players are American? Fogerty uses this camp "The Ron Forgety Hockey School" his Sarnia based business to genenrate additional income over the summer. Nothing wrong with that!

Nothing wrong with Capitalism.
A real coupe for Ron and BGSU.
A quick look at the rooster, looks like 60 / 40 American campers.
FF thanks for the info about the camp next week.
I would encourage BG people to stop by and see some very good hockey.
I would also encourage BG people to stop by and put forward a friendly Bowling Green face to our visitors ( and potential recruits).
Hopefully in 2007 or 2008 there can be a second sheet of ice to be used by the campers.

Games generally run every two hours starting around 2 (approximately) in the afternoon. Practices are in the mornings. Some evenings the Falcons skate afterward, usually around 10:15 PM. Many freshman were here last week skating. No idea who will be around next week.

I think Ron's experience with previous camps is why this one has been so incredibly successful. Everyone (and I mean EVERYONE) I talked to last week had nothing but postives to say about the camp experience and how well it was run.
