Post by bgbill »

Incoming freshman goalie Eddie Neville was stabbed during an attempted robbery Saturday night.

Eddie was on the 11 PM news tonight and appeared to be OK and in good spirits - still happy to be at BGSU..

The incident took place near the windmill.

WTF?!?!

I'm glad he's all right and sticking around. I always thought that area by the windmill was a little dim and shady for some reason.

He was found over at the corner of Troup and Clough Streets. I was on the 12:00 - 1:30 AM shift of COPS the opening weekend and we had just been past that corner approximately 8 minutes earlier. Evidently there were two assailants and city police located one subject (I've heard different things as to whether or not they apprehended the right guy).

Looking at BGSU at 1:00 AM on a Sunday morning, you definitely get a different view of the campus.

Hope all is well with our new falcon.

This is slightly off topic, but since you brought the area up TG, the pond near the windmill used to be a swimming resevoir that at one time the university owned- there is a good picture in the Honeffer "Cut Glass" book.

When I was at the Browns expansion draft in Feb. of 01 I had press credentials and I was interviewing Dante Lavelli about trainning in Bowling Green and he speciffically mentioned swimming in that quarry among other things.

I do remember seeing that picture, or one like it.

The Browns had an expansion draft in '01? Hmmm...

Did you get some good stuff about training in BG? There's a mention of it in "Browns A to Z" (or something like that), but very few other places I've found tell that story.

Could be an exciting year....

Post by FalconBlue »

What the hell was Eddie doing alone at that time of night on a campus (town) he is not familiar with?

This is an undistinguished start to the year, to date 1x stabbing and 2x underage drinking arrests (freshmen) excluding Eddie’s escapade. If the coaches are consistent someone will be sitting, as was the case last year.

Pooch, Snake and Cole have a major challenge getting this bunch into a cohesive team.

Please. He's a college kid. And 21 years old at that.

If you're really trying to put that on the coaches, you may be setting a record for farthest reach ever on this board.

Now, the cases of the underage drinking arrests, that's something that should be dealt with, I totally agree. And if it isn't... then question the coaches, but not until we see what is done.

No, I am not blaming the coaches. You are right, Eddie is 21 years old and his actions are his responsibilities. I sometimes wonder what these kids are thinking; they have great opportunities but don’t seem to realize it. Bad choices can be life altering even at 21.

Snake? Is this REALLY necessary? Name calling is very juvenile.

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

I hear ya there, but I think there are alot more "bad choices" that can and have been made at 21 than walking alone on a campus that is virtually violent crime-free. And it was Clough Street. It's not like he was wandering near S. Main and Napoleon.

BGDREW...

Post by FalconBlue »

Maybe a little less intoxication and more vigilance could have averted the incident. Criminals target their prey and a sign of drunkenness is a weakness that can be exploited very easily.
The perpetrator exploited the situation and Eddie became an unnecessary victim, in my opinion.

It's absolutely amazing to me that you're turning the blame from the attacker to the victim.

Do you ask rape victims what they were wearing?

There is obviously no crime committed by walking down the street but the hockey program as a whole in the last few years has seen too many problems with underages and the racial slur picture etc. I think Pooch needs to put a harness on this.

Just because you are 21 doesnt mean these kids should go out and get sloppy drunk 3 nights a week. A full scholarship to BG still means you have some responsibility to yourself and the program. I highly doubt Red Berenson's kids are out at Ziggys or a house party on friday night when they come into town.

I am not trying to bring back prohibition, but im saying atheletes should be held to a higher standard. If you want to booze wed-sat then quit the team.

Note that BG hoops players are not allowed to go to the bars during the season, yes they are in last place to but at least not in the police station.
