My thoughts? I was most impressed with the speed, not only getting to the puck, but getting up and down the ice. Guys were working and digging very hard to break out the puck. Effort was very strong for just an intersquad scrimmage game!! Saw many passes from behind the goal area to out in front to the open man, which is a good sign for the season!! Freshman were working hard and looking good! Defense, Offense and Goaltending had some really good moments that were fun to watch. Looking forward to seeing how that translates into a REAL game this coming Friday. Ironically, I think Sigalet let the most goals in, but I am definitely NOT worried about HIS capabilities this year!!! Jon Horrell, the goalie who transfered here from University of Findlay, looked good. (Remember that he is the goalie that beat the Spartans early in the year last season.)

Decent crowd on hand and nice crowd afterward for the autographs, pizza and pop in the Center Ice Lounge.

Only thing that was NOT GOOD, was the EXTREMELY crappy sound system we have! The guy announcing has too high of a voice to carry in that building with those lousy speakers!! (only Glick could be heard on those!) This guy sounds like Charlie Brown's Teacher talking!!!! If anything needs to be IMMEDIATELY improved, it's that pathetic excuse for a sound system. ARGHHHH!!!!

Anyone else who was there, please post your thoughts and observations!!! I would love to know what others thought!!

PS: The #1 ranked Weasels got beat 4-2 in the first game of the Lefty McFadden Tourney on Friday night!! Hee-Hee!!

I was not there because I was campaigning but I am sure the sound system is as horrible as you report. Unfortunently the only way we are going to see marked imporvement is to get rid of the metal above the speakers. That, to me, means a new roof for the building. It needs to be done, but I don't believe it's that high on the priority list right now.

On the speaker system: I still think an announcer with a lower voice would help. The announcer for the Junior A game afterword had a lower voice and I didn't have near as much trouble understanding him as the announcer for the Falcons.

My views of the Face Off: The orange team had the highest number of underclassmen AND the highest number of goals in the face off. Not to mention the fact that they were going up against the number one goalie! This bodes well for the future!

The Freshmen that stood out: Mazzei had a goal and an assist. Hodgson had 2 assists, and Whitmore had the game winning goal. In all the freshaen had a hand in 5 of the seven goals scored!

While Matsumoto didn't score he did show why he was so highly recruited. This kid has incredible hands and skates with great control. He made some fantastic passes that could have easily been turned into assists.

So far this freshman class is as good as advertised!

I also watched a little bit of the Junior A game afterwards and future Falcon Jacob Cepis. He's small but fast! He's only 16 so he has a couple of years to grow. He reminded me a lot of Nelson Emerson because when he had the puck he'd go down into a low stance and take off like a shot! He'll be here in 2006!!

All in all a very incouraging and fun afternoon of Falcon Hockey!!

sounds like good news FF! I'll be there on friday, though I have a hott date for it (yea right ) so the wig may have to stay at home. Anyone know if windsor is any good this year? We are clearly better I would hope, but I want to know if it will be a cake walk or if they can give us a good test to start the year.

fanatic, I love these in person reports from a very knowledgable hockey fan. Keep them up for us folks who can't get to all the games. I will be up for at least four games this year for sure. I like the sound of these freshmen.

We need to keep working, raise our skill level and win the close games- or at least a far bigger share than we have been. We can do it under Coach Paluch and this staff. I am always impressed when I am around these guys and I have to think recruits are also. Hey, these schools with multimillion dollar buildings can only sign x number of players. And there are at least y number of good players available.

Glad to hear the team is working hard.

And get an announcer with a low voice. No offense, athletic dept. or current announcer, but it isn't that hard to find someone. And the deep voice helps.

If they're good they'll play, if not, they'll sit. That's how it is in hockey. There are generally 4 offensive lines and 3 defensive lines (someone correct me if I'm wrong). Of the 4 offensive lines the top 2-3 play the most shifts, the fourth is considered by some as the checking line, used to spell the top 3 as well as putting a hurt on the opponents (although there have been times when I've seen the fourth line paired up with the top line on the opposing team....think "very aggressive defense"). My guess, based on what I saw this past weekend, is that a good number of the freshman will see a lot of time on the top 3 lines.

correct me if Im wrong, which I am sure I probably am, but we gained more frosh than we lost in seniors, so Im thinking that we will sit a few of the frosh regardless, or else it will be a waste to use them all now, when they can help the rising dynasty the next year even more.

You're correct...we gained more than we lost. However, no coach in his right mind would sit a hockey player who is better than one on the ice (except for disciplinary reasons, of course). If they're equivelant in skill he may alternate them. Practically speaking, there is no redshirt in hockey (other than medical), all positions are up for grabs at the beginning of each year. If the freshemen are better, they'll play. End of story.

Now, I'm not saying that all of the incoming freshmen are better than our current upper classmen, therefore, in that sense, there is a good chance that some will be sitting for some of the games....then again, there's also a chance that some of the upper classmen may be sitting. Suffice it to say that competition is fierce right now....a couple of them won't make the cut (we have a few too many on the roster right now), and some that didn't sit last year may sit this year. Who knows?

Is Don Morrison really one of our fastest skaters? For some reason I can't quit comparing him to Schueller (who at one time with his knee surgeries I suggested he didn't have to skate, just get accross the ice (from the bench) on the blue line!).

Everyone played except Chris Pedota, who was out with the flu. And yes, Morrison won the speed contest, though there wasn't much of a time break between heats, so take that for what it's worth. Overall, the whole team's speed was impressive during the scrimmage.

So...what's with Oct. 30th? Aren't you going to be here this Friday???? I don't remember you missing too many home games! Still working up in the press box?
