It's a good time to like hockey!!!

Post by Metz »

After being a BG fan for a good 9 years or so, I have never really been excited for hockey. My fan experiences started when the hockey team was struggling and attendance was down. To be honest, it really turned me away from the sport. This year though, I am proud to say I am ready for this season to start! It might be because I know some guys on the team now, my spirit for BG continues to grow every year, or just the fact that hockey is a great sport that I've never appreciated! Either way, with all the team talk and how things are on an upswing, I can't be anything but excited!! While a student here at BG, I have yet to take advantage of the free hockey games I could be attending and this year that will change!! If others have yet to take a liking in Falcon Hockey like myself, I think this will be a great year to start so follow suit!

Welcome aboard the hockey express!!!! We are headed for championships and hang on, cuz it's gonna be a wild, fun ride!!!! Bring all your friends too!!!! With your band connections, maybe we can get a REAL HOCKEY Pep Band going, one that UNDERSTANDS the game and can have a great influence on how the crowd reacts and cheers for the team!!! Nothing is more fun than having the band really get into the games, playing at the right times and getting the crowd to be louder and louder!!!

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

Thanks to video games and watching my Blackhawks on TV as a child, I have a great understanding of the game. I've just never really appreciated it! When my bro was here the 5 years before me, they had the real hockey band and it was great experience to be around. Unfortunately, IMO, not a whole lot of band kids take pride in any of the sports. I know tons of people who signed up for Athletic Band last year only because we got paid like $6 a game or something. They had no liking in any of the sports and were just there for money. Being a huge bball fan, that upset me but oh well. From what I have heard this year, the hockey team has a new entrance theme with sirens and everything to get everyone jacked up so I doubt the band will be playing the famous Rocky song for the entrance. I'll just get to cheer more though so it's all good :D

AMEN!

Metz, its aboot time you liked hockey. Being a Blackhawks fan i can see why your interest in the sport was low..... You should like a real team like Montreal or Quebec(now the Avs).

Hey FF, did you go to osu for the playoffs last year? Did you notice the osu band member with the BGSU hoodie on playing trombone? That was Kurt Fry. Went to HS with him(a frosh when he was a senior). I thought that was classic. Wearing a BG sweatshirt while in the osu pepband! It was even better when they had someone holding up a shirt to cover it up when they would show the band oneh big screen. If it werent for the beating we took, It would have been the best night ever.

Since we are in marching band season, I doubt there will be a band for this Friday's game. If I bring it up today, I'll get the "we haven't had time to get a group together and practice yet" speech from the director. Yet if anyone wanted to do it, we are used to playing from other bands people are in this semester and most of us all know the music from past years. I don't think it would sound bad at all. I really doubt it will happen Friday but we will have one later on though when it gets closer to basketball season too! Usually we have 3 athletic bands that rotate games.

You have to have some respect for the late 80's early 90's Blackhawks. They were on the decline for awhile after trading Roenick, Belfour, Chelios, etc. After all the trades it was hard to watch because it just wasn't fun anymore. I did take a liking in the Avalanche for a few years because they beat Detroit and that made me 200% happy! I still think the Avs should move back to Quebec though. Canada is hockey hometown and Nordicques is just fun to say :D
