Falcons win!!!!

Post by Metz »

Getting to the game late after sitting through the homecoming pep rally because of band kind of sucked! Of course it was 0-0 in the 2nd period when I got there so it didn't look like I missed much! BG scored 2 goals quickly in the 3rd and then Windsor scored 2 in a row a few minutes later. In OT, BG pulled out the win and I must say they looked great tonight! I am seriously wondering if hockey hates me though. All 3 goals we scored were the few seconds I looked away from the ice. The 2 Windsor goals I had to witness. Maybe I should just go to the games and look around the arena til we are up 15-0 next time :P Anyways, go Falcons, great hockey game!!!

In all honesty we should have beat them 15-0......we out shot them like 50 -12. Their goalie played unbelievably well....according to the parents sitting next to us (of #4 not the goalie) that's the best they've ever seen him play. We just caught him on a night when the puck looked huge to him.

Over all our puck movement looked good...but, then again, it's really hard to judge our play against the Canadien university teams as the over all skill level is so disparite (thus the difference in the shots on goal). Next week on the road against Union will be a much better judge of our play.

BTW, McMetz, were you setting next to an older couple? I went over to the corner to look, but wasn't sure it was you. Guess I should have just yelled out McMetz!! to see if you looked.

SPEED!!!!!!!!

Post by Falcon Fanatic »

Lots of speed on the team!! Some really good cycling of the puck. Freshman got LOTS of ice time tonight. First and second periods were really dominated by the Falcons, but we just couldn't get the puck past that goalie! I swear he had a horseshoe up his arse!!! The Windsor goalie played incredible. I see a LOT of potential in this team. Once they start to connect on the feeds in front of the net...LOOK OUT!!!! This will come in time, as the freshman adjust to the speed of the college game and as the players get more comfortable with each other's play. The guys are REALLY excited about this year. A senior told me that he has never felt this excited about how this team will do. That says a lot about the team attitude!!!

Next up...UNION!!!

It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

And both Michigan and Miami only get one one tally mark in the 'W' column to show for it.

Their goalie was getting lucky. He just kept laying flat on the ice and our guys weren't flipping the puck over him, just right into him. And I don't know about the older couple thing. I was sitting right to the left of where the handicap people normally sit but up about 5 rows. I'll be there all season so I'm sure I'll catch you sometime!

I think the weasels bea tthem 11-1 not 12-0..not that it matters....

My thoughts:

We are definatly a more driven and agressive and determined team than I have seen in years. Down 2 men and we are pressuring for the puck. In years past we sat there and let them rack up the shot total. Not anymore.

Hodgson really impressed me with his skills and abilities. he will be a great player by the time hes done.

We still cant handle the puck. In our own end we are so rediculously sloppy its sad. Michigan will tear us apart if we play that way. I think it was b/c they werent on their normal lines, and the chemistry was off b/c of that.

WE created a lot more scoring ops this year. granted its Windsor, but we looked OK.

Give WIndsor credit where its due. They played a helluva game and deserved that OT. WE didnt outplay them, and it went to OT. We should have beat them soundly in regularion but thats a moot point now.

Their goalie is really good. Metz, I dont think he was lucky at all. Yes he was ont eh ground a lot, but thats cuz he knew our guys would jsut keep trying to put the square peg in the round hole, and blast it through his body...which wasnt working I may add. He played a greta game, he looked like montoya and siggy's combined offsprign out there. He'll give them a chance to win every game I think. Some of those save were just plain sick.

WE are a LOT faster getting to the puck, this is evident.

Sitko was honestly trying to get his decapatation(that I called) in game 1. he was hitting harder than ever.

Why didnt rogo play? and Pilkington? where were they?

All said and done, we won. It was a sloppy win, btu a win none the less. I dont think we will face too many goalies that good this year. Montoya and NMU's guy are about it I think. We need to adjust the lines a bit to get better chemistry, but those werent going to be the lines anyway, I think Scotty just wanted to play the frosh a lot that game since it didnt count for anything. WE looked improved though. We still need to lear to put a guy up front in front of the goal and we will add a goal a game that way I think. too many times we have no one there to put the puck in the net.

Wow that brings to mind UGLY pictures...let alone what it implies of a liking of michigan!

Please don't do that to me again...

Thanks for the report of the game. Remember that Windsor has played under the new NCAA rules before this year. And I think they are an improved Windsor team from those we have played in the past...[/quote]

Good analysis, but I beg to differ on a few points. This was Windsor's 6th game against D-1 opponents. This is our first game, period. Obviously line combinations are not set yet. Rogo and Pilk were sitting out for discilinary reasons (something that happened last spring) on a one game, coach imposed, suspension. The Windsor goalie was truly playing out of his head last night. And as BGFan said, it wasn't typical play for him, so I am not sure I would call him a Montoya-Sigalet offspring just yet. He definitely had a fanatasic night and got VERY lucky on a few shots (ie, when a shot came right at the center of the top of the net, he pops his head up and the puck hits him on the face mask and pops OVER the net!!) I do think that our freshman will develop into incredible players, but right now, they are still adjusting to the speed of the game at this level, hence the missed passes, timing being off on the feed passes to the net, etc. This will improve as we play a few more games. The games at Union are going to be a good test for them.

And it's great to have people on this board to talk about the game!!! So keep it up, BGSUfanatUT!!!

well, I didnt know if it was a career game for him, or if he was jsut that good, but he played a helluva game thats for sure.

Any idea what the dicsiplinary reasons were for?

yeah it was our forst game...but Windsor always is our first. And we perenially win by 5+ goals...we should not have gone to OT with taht squad.

Correction

Post by Falcon Fanatic »

I think it was Morrison and Pilkington who were discipline, not sure why Rogo was out. And I don't know what the discipline was for.

on the radio they said the two sat out because of some incident at the end of last season and it was the coach's decision I think. And Rogo willingly sat out so other players could be evaluated in the game. They'll all be back for the next game.

congrats on the win against windsor. was that an exhibition game or did that count in the standings? our win against them did not count as a regular season win but it was nice to get off on the right foot.

looking forward to playing you guys this year. i think we should pair the ohio teams together every year so we can do the real ohio cup. the new pod schedule has us paired with osu every year, but it would be nice for all three ohio teams to be a pod and we rotate another team in each year. bg has been tough on miami over the past few years, so i'm hoping we'll have a little more success this year. hopefully, i can make at least one of the games over the thanksgiving weekend.

go redhawks!

That would be cool about the ohio cup. But that would kinda suck being with only 1 new team a year. Maybe if we jsut had all 3 in teh same pod every 2nd or 3rd year, that would be good.

Yes, it was an exhibition game and none of it counted in the standings or point totals for the guys. This weekend at Union will be our first "official" games under NCAA play. Looking forward to playing you guys too! You might think that BG has been tough on Miami, but if you look over the history of the games, I think we can find plenty of times that Miami took it to us as well!! I hate the cluster scheduling that our league does. I hate it that we only play some teams for two games instead of four. But what can you do? Complaining won't change it. Good luck in your season, except when you play the Falcons, of course!!
