Despite the pathetic attendance overall, the students had a good showing! I was VERY impressed with the cheering they did!! Nice to see them getting organized cheers going....the goal counts are coming back!! YAY!!!!
Funniest cheer was when the Windsor team was whining and complaining in the 3rd period and section E started yelling, "USA!! USA!! USA!!" That was hilarious!!!
I can see this building with more and more students filling in the endzone section and REALLY making some noise!!!
WAY TO GO!!!
WE WANT MORE!! WE WANT MORE!! WE WANT MORE!! WE WANT MORE!!
"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second." ~~USCHO Poster "BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got." ~~USCHO Poster, AFTER Tech beat us #NeverGiveUp

I thought that was kind of ignorant, given that several BG players are Canadian... seemed kind of insulting to me... OK, I'm off my soap box now.
Otherwise, I was really pleased with the student presence tonight. They were loud and rambuncious, which makes for a great game of hockey! I really enjoyed getting to hear them tell the opposing coach to "sit down, shut up" while he was whining to the refs about his poor cageless player who was bleeding from the mouth...
I'll say this: I laughed at the USA! USA! chant, but at the same time, couldn't help thinking about the BG players that are from Canada and the fact that it might come across as a bit ignorant.
Otherwise, I though it was great. Considering I'm fairly well known (thanks to my BGNews letter) as someone who doesn't appreciate the dirty chants, I was really pleased by the way the cheers went.
I was a little worried when I saw a couple with a baby nearby, but I think on the whole (and definitely in comparison to last year), it was a great game for all.

I seriously doubted if the Canadian players from BG took it any other way than which it was intended, and that was to slam Windsor after the pissing and moaning they were doing. It wasn't like they kept yelling it all through the game. They yelled it briefly and got their point across...just cheering for the home team!!
BTW, forgot to mention the newspapers at the Windsor introductions!! AWESOME!!!
Overall....WELL DONE STUDENTS!!
GO FALCONS!!!
GO HOCKEY!!!

There were also a few students across from Section E in the bowl who were cheering loudly too. In fact they were yelling BG while Section E was answering with SU. As a Section A fan from "way back" it was great to see the enthusiasm in the student sections. Keep it up guys and gals.
As a side note--how great was it to see a Fred and Frieda who could skate.

Agreed, and boy could they DANCE too! They were picking partners left and right and dancing the night away in the student section.
I gotta say, I'm a big fan of the two that were there last night.

The USA chant, I was not too fond of, for the reason above of the 7 I think I counted Canadians on our team. But whatever, like whoever said before, I doubt they were offended. I was pumped people actually cheered and what not. Though this kid who was a few down from me hated us doing the "1-2-3-4, we want more, we want more....." chant. He said he would never do it, I think he thinks we stole it from some other team ( I dont remember who he said). But haven't we (BGSU) been doing that one for some time now? I was sad we didn't do the "It's all your fault" to the goalie chant... Maybe next time!

The 'we want more' chant is much more original than the 'all your fault' chant. . . Does the we want more chant still evolve into the 'gooooo-gooo' chant? I also enjoy the 'sieve' chant more than the all your fault chant.
Sounds like a spirited group and a good time had by all.
It still turns into the go go go thing, but its not quite right, isn't it supposed to start slow then keep building up? Then after that the goalie harassment starts.
Another great one I found out about on wednesday that would be great to bring back is after the opposing team scores the student sections just starts a slow clap and when it builds up they start yelling go go go at the other goal again.
I don't know if anyone remembers the home game against Notre Lame last year, but O'niel made a huge bonehead play right at the beginning of the game, and for the entire rest of the match every time he got the puck EVERYONE in the ice arena started booing until he got rid of it. That could be a great bit for the BG ice arena, just wait for the first deuche bag on the opposition to pull something then give him hell every time he touches the puck for the rest of the game.
The 1,2,3,4 wewant more chant may have been liberated from a school out east. We yell it differently, others have stolen it from us & put their own spin on it. It's all your fault & sieve chants make BG sound like every other rink
THANKS to the students in Sec E, D & anywhere else in the arena 4 raising your voices & filling a seat.
Now let's get loud & creative 4 the games which count
WE WANT MORE, WE WANT MORE, GO GO GO
GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
BG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah STUDENTS See u Friday loud & proud

I was sitting on the opposite side from teh student section last night and we start the "its all your fault" chant!
I have to say, I prefer the straight up count over any of that "it's all your fault", "you! you! you! you!" or "sieve!" stuff. I think it will be intimidating enough on its own when everyone joins in and it gets loud enough.

Okay. First there is complaints about the lack of attendance. Now were bashing students chants and cheers? For one our team hasn't been great for a few years now and people are losing hope that our team doesn't have a chance of winning. Yeah part of this is that Paluch is trying to rebuild the team and we have a lack of experience. Two why are you saying that chanting USA would be offensive? Windsor was playing aggressive and taking cheap shots and I've talked to a few of the Canadian players from our team asking if they thought it was offensive and no they thought it was great that our students were into the game and it really helped them to feel to have a "6th man" on the ice. So quit complaing for whatever reason because this year will be different and just goto the games and support our guys.

I don't think a single person said anything about NOT supporting the team, simply that they might have been more sensitive to potential feelings than others may have been. But again, most of them agree that it was probably taken in the intended context, so it is essentially a moot point. Why flame people over it?
