Uconn game

A win is a win but I do not think that Pooch wanted to win this game in OT. We definetly will need to pick up our game before the CCHA schedule starts. As stated by a BG-NY fan Uconn is similar to a D-III team as the players want to continue their hockey careers and are willing to pay 30k to do it.

Sometimes we read way too much into the situation at hand. Yes, a not so good team took us into over-time, but we still won. And how can we be positive that Uconn is really as bad as they have been in the past, maybe this is a coming out year for them (as funny as they are, no jokes about coming out of the closet please). I ran from the MMA building all the way to the ice arena and showed up just in time to watch that rebound get put right back in. From that few seconds I saw the team executed well, the crowd was VERY alive and huge, and the falcons pulled off the win. Good team or bad, over time or not, we still won, and we'll keep winning and the ice arena will get louder and louder every weekend.

UCONN's goalie was damn solid tonight. That's all I'm going to say about this game.

A W is a W.

I would just like all of you who thought that last years seniors were the problem, to check the score of the game tonight. That is embarssing. Uconn was beat 9-2 last year, 9-2!!!! There is no way that that team should have been able to come within 5 goals of BG. A win is not a win, not when you are playing a team that is on par with Div. 3 teams. Uconn is terrible and you people need to stop kidding yourself, this isn't a coming out year for Uconn, their best player shouldn't be as good as the worst player on BG. Uconn doesn't even give out scholarships and with BG having the ability to give out 18 there shouldn't be any competition. There is no reason for BG not to come out and win tonight especially in a home opener when they are suppossed to be pumped up and ready to go. A sign of whats to come, I hope not but with Pooch you never know.
Side note why wasn't Bronson playing tonight, Pooch needs to get his head on becuase Brony is the real leader on the team and is a tough solid d-man that the team could use.
Its beginning already, good start Pooch.

UConn's goalie made some incredible saves tonight and could easily have stolen the game. He's also not the same goalie that we saw last year.

Compared to last year's game this one was completely different. The shots on goal last year were even but we won big because their goal tending was horrible. In most of last year's games, however, we were out shot badly. You can't keep getting outshot like we did game after game and expect to win. This year we outshot them 32-17. We played solid defense limiting them to just 17 shots UNLIKE last year. Yes, we won in overtime....so what. We outplayed them from beginning to end UNLIKE LAST YEAR. If this is what we're going to see this year, I like it. Great defense, a lot of chances to score, fast and upbeat. Need I say it...UNLIKE LAST YEAR.

this win, and more importantly the way team looked and they way that were interacting with each other shows lots of promise. Promise inthat fraction of SRs from last year who were at odds with our coach and team mates are now gone. this team is already ahead of the curve as far as having thier heads on right, the game play will rise with this young team to where BGSU Belongs...and in another season I see us inthe playoffs and the year after that, and the year after that...looks like falcon hockey is back!!!

There were some good things tonight and some bad things. Pro's defense looks 100 percent better on the PP this year. I mean that was one of our key problems last season so it's nice to see improvemnt. Jimmy looked awsome tonight you could see that there was improvment over the offseason, looks very sharp.

CONS

PUCK HANDLING- this was an issue last year and looks like it could be one this year so many bad passes and missed oppertunites. this needs to get worked out as the seaon roles along

Overall it was wasn't that bad of a night, student section rocked as normal and we got the win. Will continue to see improvment over the year, and who knows maybe in March will be talking a home playoff stint.

With the number of freshman on this team, expect to see a few of the older guys sitting out so the freshman can gain some game experience early on in the season.

Random Thoughts from the UConn Game:

-As soon as this team gels together and guys are able to find each other on the ice, they will be very difficult to beat.

-I was very impressed with McIlrath and Kantola. Good hustle and skills by both guys.

-Great attendance from the students.

-Video Review can be a good thing or a bad thing. Tonight it was a good thing, but was not going to be utilized until Spratt and a few other players complained. This could lead to a lot of whining by players throughout the season.

-Spratt look solid. A little trouble controlling rebounds, but a lot of that probably has to do with the smaller glove. The one shot that beat him was a rocket. That kid had one heck of a shot.

Just looking at last night, this team has a ways to go to be a top team again. But, this season looks very promising. As these guys grow together they're only going to get better. There doesn't seem to be a clear #1 line yet. At the same time, there isn't a clear #4 line either.

along with Bronson, what about Unger. i haven't seen he dress this year yet. is he hurt or something? I can't see a 3 letter SR being set aside for a bunch of frosh who score 2 against UCONN.
