Bowling Green (3-9-1), Lose 5-0 versus Clarkson.
Potsdam, New York 11.24.2006
Bowling Green State University hockey dropped a 5-0 decision Friday night in Potsdam, New York, to the Golden Knights of Clarkson University. The loss is the Falcons' fifth straight.
Scott Paluch quote:
“The guys worked extremely hard and created chances, but our inability to score goals is hurting us," said BGSU head coach Scott Paluch. "There were times that I thought our power play moved the puck really well and created chances. When you are struggling to score goals, the goals against can really magnify."
Tonight it was the “Men against the Boys” and it really was evident when Clarkson scored two goals before the crowd had even taken their seats.
Clarkson ran roughshod over the Falcons at this meeting in their modern facility.
The Falcons outshot Clarkson 23 to 20 but once again few quality shots were made on David Leggio.
The PP was 0 for 8 and looked even worse than usual. Making simple accurate passes should be second nature by the time you play DI, but was beyond this PP’s capabilities. As a group the PP unit just does not work, and Clarkson were just to good on the PK.
The Defense was of little help to Neville and Milke Nesdill -13 and Sinkewich -9 struggled all night long.
Falcons Stumble 4-0 Versus St. Lawrence
Nov. 26, 2006
“CANTON, New York - The Bowling Green State University hockey team dropped their sixth straight contest on Saturday night, this time with a 4-0 defeat at the hand of St. Lawrence University in Canton, New York.
The puck continued to bounce off sticks of Falcons' and directly onto the tape of the opposition, as the Falcons were shutout for the second straight night.
“The perfect example was evident midway through the first period with the Falcons working with a man advantage. Junior Mike Nesdill fired a shot from the point and raised his hands in celebration, but the puck rang off the left post, leaving the game scoreless.
“Just minutes later the puck bounces over the stick of senior Jeremy Bronson and the Saints snatch up a 1-0 lead at the 13:26 mark of the first”.”
From my vantage it looked like #10 Schmidt not #5 Bronson who deflected the puck into his own net. Bronson was playing forward at the time.
SLU (7-4-0) added two more goals in the second and one last tally at 10:13 of the third for their 4-0 win.
Despite the 4-0 defeat sophomore Jimmy Spratt had arguably his best game as a Falcon. While facing 44 St. Lawrence shots, the Chesterfield, Michigan native made 40 saves, a career-high. His previous best was 36 in a 1-1 tie versus Notre Dame last year.
At the other end of the ice SLU's Kain Tisi denied all 24 BGSU shots as the Falcons went 0-for-9 with the man-advantage, for his first career shutout. The Saints went scoreless on two attempts with their power play.
PP was 0 for 17 this weekend.
