Having watched the Redhawks at the Lefty McFadden Tournament here in Dayton - 9-3 is an upset or upsetting - either way. Losing 2-1 in Oxford was more of a score I would expect, but would have prefered to see the Redhawks on top.

Miami beat the snot out of Boston University and Northeastern at the Lefty. BTW - Northeastern beat Michigan at the Lefty 4-2.

During our trip to Miami Homecoming, we got the word from one of the Assistant AD's that the starting Goalie, Crawford-West, was benched for the first OSU game for missing a couple of classes. Coach Enrico wanted to send a message. That should explain the turn-around Friday night.

Miami Hockey is on the rise and I predict another NCAA berth and possibly a Frozen Four if not this year in a year or two. They are a young team with lots of talent. I also think Miami is a few years ahead of BG's return. Both schools hiring alumni studs to coach is going to help both programs and I expect big things out of both. We need to give Coach Scott a few more years of recruiting and I think BG's return to the competitive ranks (CCHA Finals and NCAA berths) will be complete.

The good thing for BG this year is we have Miami at the Ice Arena. Home Ice should help us. Bad news is it is on Thanksgiving weekend and the students will be gone.

I don't believe Miami is "a few years" ahead of BG's return. I feel that if the freshman pan out as expected (early indications are positive!), we are going to be right in the thick of things THIS YEAR. Home ice is the expectation and Joe Louis is definitely the goal. Anything beyond that will be phenomenal, but not totally unexpected from some of us. If it doesn't happen this year, then next year, without a doubt, IT WILL!!!

If we are doing well up until Thanksgiving and are ranked, people will know and people will come!!! There are a LOT of local people out there, just waiting for the hockey program to become the national powerhouse it once was. As those days return, so will the fans!!!!

GO FALCONS!!
SWEEP THE LAKERS!!
"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

Maybe Miami is closer to regaining their glory days than BG? Ill agree to that, you guys smoked ppl last year, but you had less of a fall, and a much shorter climb back up. For what we were, adn what we are, and what we are going to be this year and onward, I think we have the Redhawk comeback quite dwarfed.

My point of my eariler post was not to take Miami's 9-3 loss to OSU as an indication of this year's Redhawks.

I am a BG Hockey Fan BEFORE I am a Miami Fan, but having watched the Redhawks the last few years - I will stand by my comment. Coach Scott will need several Freshman classes to get us (BG) there. But I LIKE your optimism.

I keep looking back to last year's first round of the NCAA where the Redhawks nearly toppled Denver. It was Denver's closest game the whole tournament. Miami is returning lots of players and talent.

And again - Miami took Boston University APART at the Lefty a few weeks ago. They were skating fast and making excellant passes. They reminded me of BG during my student days (79-83). -- Gawd! I can't believe I just said that.....

Again - I like your optimism about being ranked. I know a lot of loyal fans in the BG area that have been there thick and thin and are still attending. But T-day games are still fairly studentless. Last time I went to a T-day weekend game, it was youth night and every child got in for free with a paying adult. That helped bulk up the crowd, but it was still faily small - less than 2,000.

Denver came out of nowhere to win it all last year. The Falcons this year have a lot going for them, team chemistry, a commiment to team defense, goal tending, goal scorers, and topnotch coaching. They will lose some along the way, but it's what they are doing in February and March that really matters. Just you wait and see!!!

The Redhawks have never had any glory days or anything to match Our Falcons...... but they are entering them now. They have made some very smart coaching and recruiting decisions over the past 10 years and the new Ice Arena is going to help.

BG's best decision was to get rid of our last coach (I can't even mention his name without spitting) and bringing in Coach Scott. I think having an alum as coach is important. It is why and how we lost Mason and York - they returned home - can anyone blame them. Coach Scott has great pedigree as a player and as a coach under York. I am SO PUMPED about our potential. We need to show our support as best as we can.

I am so glad I can listen to the games every weekend through my internet connection. I can't get to BG every weekend to watch the games, so WBGU is my ticket to the game. I am going out this week to by an Airport Express so I can set-up speakers in my living room or billiards room. That way I don't have to sit in my office/studio and listen to the game.

Thats what I was implying in that statement, MU was never near as high a peak as BG, so to say they are ahead of BG in rising again is a bad comparrison.

Say what you will about it being a good move to put Scott at the helm, but please do not disrespect Buddy powers like that. He was a soft coach, and didnt have the dire attitude that we needed, Ill agree, Scott is a much better head coach. But Buddy was there in 84, and he is my neighbor and good friend, so please be kinder to him and his character in the future.

As you can see from my quote, I never said re-rising. The Redhawks are ON the rise. Whether we like it or not we should respect them.

I think the two programs are on a parrell rise/re-rise. And its about the two coaches. I think in the not so distant future we are going to see BG and Miami battling it out for the top spot in the CCHA

Sorry you took my comments to heart about B. Powers, but he damaged the program. It is a plain and simple fact. Like someone said before in another post "Scoreboard" or in this case "Record". I am not trying to be mean. He may be a great guy, but he struggled. The real question that B. Powers needs to ask himself is what he learned from the experience and how it might effect his approach in the future, if he ever gets a chance to coach at D-1 again. I am in a VERY competitive field and have to ask myself the same question daily to continue to improve. It is something you learn with age and experience. Do I hope the best for Coach Power - I sure do.

And I agree with you, he was too soft of a coach, and definatly didnt help the program. It was the spitting comment that I didnt like was all. No harm done.
