Favorite Memory?
Let's try this: what is your favorite memory of Falcon hockey?
For me, it was last year's Michigan game where we beat them 5-2 in front of the largest crowd I've ever seen in my young Falcon years. Man...I still get chills from that game.
A close second would be when we swept OSU, as well, last year.
Let's get a good topic here going and try to take our thoughts off what's happening this year. I'd love to get some of the former players opinions on this as well if they would be so forward.

Former RedWing coach Nick Polano was scouting for Buffalo (I think) back in 1989. He was sitting in the upper reaches of the Ice Arena watching us battle Michigan State. Some kid recognized him and asked for an autograph....he turned him down?!!.
Nick Polano refuses autographs???
I looked at him and said "Ohhhh...Nick Polano...he's big time!!"
He just looked away......
I thought that was pretty cool
Although that National Champs game on ESPN and the coverage that followed was pretty sweet also

Boy, where do I start.
Jerry Welsh, OSU Coach verballing me with "Hey, Nice Face!" I got to talk with him the next year and mentioned it and he said, "Oh, that was you?"
Darren Fridgen, former Ferris State player chanting "Go...Go...Go" with the whole crowd at Myles Pizza once. We gave him a little Hawaiian umbrella for his drink too.
The Russian coaches trying to get into their bench from the stands not realizing there was no door was pretty funny.
Olscamp crowd surfing was awesome.
Buying one ticket from a MSU puck bunny to a sold out game and she mistakenly gave me 2. I ran into her in the arena so she got in some how.
Geoff Williams taking one shift and netting the game winner against MSU.
Nelson Emerson breakaway when he skidded in front of the goalie and covered him with snow and then flipped the puck in.
Jamie Wansbrough's 100th goal.
Handing Gary Kruzich tootsie rolls and gum over the glass.
Weiss on Ice.
The 10 minute standing ovation trying to motivate the team when we were losing to Michigan.
Any game standing in line 2 hours just to get into the rink.
I am sure there is much much more.

In an otherwise awful year, the team was in East Lansing on a Sunday for the backhalf against then No.1 MSU. Shawn Timm shuts them out making 42 saves. Dennis Williams (maybe the least likely guy on the team) nets the only goal of the game. It was a great ride home.

All of the above!!
Seeing Chad Arthur and a Northern Illinois team get into it during warmups.
Watching Peter Holmes stand by the net and get goal after goal.
Seeing Rob Blake's slapshots.
Ian Duncan's grin after he "terminated" a rival
When we won the CCHA Tournament at the Joe
Llew NcWana!!
Seeing Llew, Dan Bylsma and others playing basketball with my 3rd graders at 8:00 in the morning. Wow, what a neat site.
Sitting in the midst of Section A.
Watching my son as Freddie skate at the Joe.

Oh there are lots of great moments, but here are a few.
-Last year (maybe... they all blend together now), and the crowd at the UofM game, even though we lost IIRC.
- After a BG-OSU game 3-4 years ago, when the two teams broke into a brawl on the ice as they were shaking hands afterwards, Easily the best brawl I've seen.
- When Falcons4Life was sitting next to me at an OSU game and decided to yell a relatively profane comment at the OSU goalie just as soon as the Ice Arena got curiously quiet. "Steckel, you _____!" LOL!!!!

Winning the Badger Showdown?
Alright, now I have to reply! When I saw this message, one date in particular (that I wasn't a part of) came to mind...
the 1-0 victory at Munn...Shawn Timm with the shutout....as I recall, wasn't the weather bad that night!? Yes, I opted to stay home and not make that road trip...the guy I was to go with won't let me forget that!
Ah yes, the fight with OSU at the 60:00 mark...that one I won't forget...both teams and the coaches on the ice....that night I learned (cemented) the fact that Markell is an a$$...those of you who know me I think know the story! It was classic!
My best memory had to have been the Badger Showdown....Singing Ziggy Zoomba in the (empty) streets of Milwaukee after winning their tourney!

Egads...I forgot one...my wife and I went to a game on our second date. She was talking to me about something (I didn't listen to her much even then) when a puck came sailing towards us. I yelled "incoming" and pulled her down. I don't know if it would have hit her or not...but I do recall the lady behind us getting beaned pretty good. My wife thought I was a great guy but she still wouldn't put out that night...ah well, maybe some day...
Life is funny...I recall that incident fondly..the person who got cranked by a puck thinks very differently. Some people like Arby's...I'd rather eat Elmer's glue....

Yeah, the weather was absolutely awful. Sleet all over the highway and zero visibility. I'm still patting myself on the back for living through that drive. That game had me so giddy, it didn't matter.

I don't have a whole lot of experience here, and can only wish I had been around (or alive!) for the championship season, but my personal favorites are the win over Michigan and getting to taunt their fans as they left early and the sweep of OSU (which only got better after they were such pricks this year).

My earliest memory was the bench clearing brawl at home against North Dakota (late 80's early 90's).
Sitting in Section A for a game against scUM in 93-94 or 94-95 (can't remember which). Entire game I was trying to explain the game of hockey to some hot co-ed (I was only 11 or 12).
Almost getting Kevin Lune arrested in Columbus at a game at the Fairground's Colliseum against OSU in the 95-96 season. Fight on the ice and the dumb ref sent both players (Kevin Lune from BG) off the ice at the same time. I had the key to the locker room and was walking down the steps next to the walkway when I heard Lune say "Hey, ya wanna fight?" I had to wait for the cops to break it up so I could get to the locker room. The cops told me to tell Lune that if he came out again he was going to jail (I forgot to tell him that
. He watched the rest of the game from behind the glass and luckily didn't go to jail.)
Yelling, by myself, at the enitre section sitting behind the visitors bench.
The guys in Section E who always begged me for pucks after warmups. And usually pronounced my name wrong.
Falling on my AZZ on my way off the ice with a bucket full of pucks and getting a standing "O" from Section A.
Giving the TV crew a nice shot of the dryer in the locker room rather than the room itself...
Getting in a shoving match with the scUM players because they were trying to get on the ice before our team. (Tyler Masters always had to wait until the nets were set before he left the room...rule book says "Home team shall take the ice first")
Getting in trouble for "cheering" while in the press box.
Sitting in the press box at the Schott and not being able to read the names or numbers on the jerseys.
The weekend after the movie Waterboy came out...those of you in Section E at the time remember that.

This one comes up from time to time around here. Is it wrong that it always makes me smile to think about it?pdt1081 wrote:Almost getting Kevin Lune arrested in Columbus at a game at the Fairground's Colliseum against OSU in the 95-96 season. I also remember watching a game against Michigan with my dad one year (probably late 80's, I'd guess...?) Packed house and we stood on the glass in the zamboni corner. Thought that was so cool to watch hockey like that.
Doing another game for BGRSO at UIC Pavilion in '95 or so, our "booth" was halfway up the upper bowl on a platform (and still better digs than they give us at the glAss Bowl), so we ran a microphone down the aisle and hung it over the railing. After a period or so, our producer asked if we had a crowd mic hooked up, because he couldn't hear anything. No more than a minute of game later, someone from BG *crushes* a UIC player into the boards right below our microphone. The producer heard it that time.
Also seem to remember someone around the same time banking one in from behind center ice at Yost thanks to a friendly seam in the glass. Kelly Perrault, maybe?
Not such a fun memory? Getting semi-toasted at JLA and watching BG give up 7 or 8 or 296 goals to LSSU. After five or six, the jersey went inside out, after the next one, it went up for sale.
