Another Loss, 4-1 to UNM..
Another Loss, 4-1 to UNM..
One must appreciate Scott Paluch’s consistency; he works very hard at repeating his previous mistakes. His special teams performed as expected and he got the results anticipated. He sure knows how to lose in Marquette, BGSU have not won there since March 13th, 2001. Does he know it is an Olympic surface?
This narrative is beginning to sound like a broken record but with a record…5-20-1, .212 (3-15-0 CCHA) the hole just gets deeper.
The Power Play was 0-10 tonight, an effort worse than in Omaha last weekend. We have scored only 2 goals in the last 5 games versus 23 goals against over that period.
The keys to the game per Andy Evans were: (I can only remember 2).
1.Power Play (0-10 tonight)
2.Stop Mike Santorelli (he had a goal and 2 assists tonight).
Neither goal was accomplished tonight and the result is evident. Is it possible that our players were not capable of stopping Santorelli? Did we try?
Their players easily neutralize Matsumoto and Whitmore? I don't think our players are any worse than theirs.
This is not even fun anymore. I will bet he (Pooch) gives us more of the same tomorrow.

I just don't get this power play
I realize we are well into broken record time, but it is just amazing how bad the power play has been. You'd think at some point there would be some re-evaluation going on. The system (what ever system that is) isn't working. Try something else. Surely by now the players, however skilled they may or may not be, would have this one down. It can't possibly be missed or confused assignments. It's not getting any better. Try something else. ... Please.

Dennis Williams scored the game winner in OT and if I'm not mistaken, that was the one where Tyler Masters went to the glass and flipped off the student section when it was all said and done.
penalty kill
One thing that really needs work is defending against a power play that opens up one side of our goal, and there's an opposing player camped out over there with an open net. Two pp goals against and one even strength goal were given up last night due to this. All three times, the activity was to Jimmy's left, so he's over there defending, then the puck is passed over to his right and shot in before he can even move. I've seen this many times this year. Spratt held up well, but he can't be everywhere.
Last night's game was played more evenly than the score would suggest. NM was able to make those quick strikes above when the opportunity arose. Otherwise,
BG was moving the puck pretty good, and had at least two nice shots on goal that their goalie was quick enough to snag.
We weren't checking much, though.

These are grown men, I believe they are should take half of the blame. The mentallity of this team is that everyone looks around and hopes someone else can score. The problem is no can score, its not a good situation. This season coupled with the overall problems with our other athletic teams is really taking BG into unchartered waters in terms of low moral and school spirit.
Even for the biggest hockey fans this is just pathetic to watch. It is getting to the point that when a lower tier CCHA team comes in to the arena we might not have 500 people in the stands. I never thought Id see the day that the BGHS team is drawing similar to a college team.

No buddy, it's way harder for the biggest hockey fans to watch than the average joe. The younger people here haven't seen what BG hockey used to be all about. Heck, I realize that it's got to be 10X harder for the 80s generation than it is for me. I saw this team right before the collapse and remember the excitement, the pride and the skill. It's heartbreaking to think those days may never return.dannyk wrote:Even for the biggest hockey fans this is just pathetic to watch. they can return
The days when BG was a top team in the nation can return. however, there are things that need to be changed in order for it to happen. The athletic Department has to wake up and find a real head coach. Paluch's days should be over as a BG coach. He does not have the coaching ability to bring this team back.
BG is definately a place that can draw top players from all the junior leagues. As a former player for Bg that was recruited by other top schools I can tell you that the BG is a great place to be a college athlete at. I can only imagine how great it would be to play for a good coach. There is no reason why BG Can not be a top team.
I think it is more than obvious that Paluch just is a very bad head coach. So Athletic Dept. Take some initiative and get a new coach. enough is enough.

Northern Michigan Bests Bowling Green
Olver's Two Goals Pace Wildcats
by Kyle Whitney/USCHO Arena Reporter
MARQUETTE, Mich. — The Northern Michigan Wildcats finally received a veteran effort on Friday against the Bowling Green Falcons when a goal from Mike Santorelli and a pair of Darin Olver lamplighters carried the Wildcats to a 4-1 victory.
“It’s big and it’s what we’ve talked about needing all year,” NMU head coach Walt Kyle said. “Those are the guys that have to do the job every night. They are the lead guys. They have proven that they can do it in the past and they have to carry the mail for us.”
Olver’s first marker was the game-winner and came at the 8:10 mark of the second period when he netted a rebound from Falcon’s netminder Jimmy Spratt. The lucky bounce came off a Pat Bateman shot which flew to Spratt’s right side, where Olver only had to beat an empty net for the goal.
“It was a great play by everybody on the line,” Olver said. “Everyone just did what they were supposed to do out there.”
Olver netted his second goal for the Wildcats (10-14-2 overall, 7-11-1 CCHA) just 1:26 into the final frame, when he managed to poke the puck through a crowd in front of the net. The score gave NMU a 3-0 advantage over the Falcons (5-20-1, 3-15-0) and was assisted by Mike Santorelli.
Santorelli picked up a second assist and a goal in the game, giving him 34 points on the season and a CCHA best 21 goals.
Also kicking in a strong veteran performance was senior NMU netminder Bill Zaniboni, who stopped 21 of the 22 shots that he faced, many against the power-play.
“I think we played well as a group for 60 minutes tonight,” Zaniboni said. “When they had chances I think I controlled my rebounds pretty well and I did the things to help us win a game.”
At the outset of the night Zaniboni had been in-net for the Wildcats for an astounding 1364:29. That number is good for first in the country, but the goalie sees no reason to give up time yet.
“I love it, it’s awesome,” he said. “It’s something that you hope for all through your career, especially as a senior. You want to play as much as you can and you always want to be out there to be sure that you help your team get a win. We need to put some wins together right now and I feel great.”
Zaniboni’s play, coupled with a strong defensive showing by the Wildcats, prevented the Falcons from converting on a power-play chance, despite myriad opportunities.
“Both teams created some good chances and both were good defensively,” Bowling Green head coach Scott Paluch said. “The difference in the game was that Northern did an outstanding job on the penalty kill and we were unable to capitalize on our power-play chances.”
The Falcons managed 12 shots on ten power-plays, but couldn’t get on the board. They threatened more than once, but were rejected by both Zaniboni and the stingy Northern defense.
“When things aren’t going well it seems that’s the way it’s going to be,” Paluch said. “But you have to battle through that and create your own breaks.”
Bowling Green has converted on only 15 of their 181 power-play opportunities this year (.083), and the unit must improve, according to Paluch.
“Our power-play has to start scoring some goals,” he said. “We’re struggling to score and a lot of that has to do with our power-play. We have to get better.”
The Wildcats and Falcons both had ample chances to score with an advantage as there were 21 penalties whistled in the contest.
Despite the win, the Wildcats know that there is still one game to go in the series as consistency has constantly eluded them this season. On Saturday, they look for their first sweep of the 2006-2007 campaign.
“We had a couple of guys put pucks in the net at big times and we jumped out to a lead,” Kyle said. “Good teams are able to do that every night and it’s something that we have to work on.”
The teams will face-off at 7:35 in the Berry Events Center.

It is so heartening to read that more and more of you are getting the picture. The bad rumor is that he's going to be around another 2 years. It makes me just sick to think this could be true. Can't anybody get the administration's ear and convince them to oust this loser, the sooner the better? I can only hope.

If Paluch is back who will renew their season tickets?
I will, but after 36 years I have to; Marta will...
Any others?
my suggestions:
1. Allow Pooch to take a vacation for the rest of the season,
Danton takes over.
2. Ribeau anounces that the University has committed $ 3 million to the Arena, fund raising has begun to raise another $ 7 million to renovate the Ice Arena
3. Rightupthere's buddy is the designer and here are the artist drawings of the renovated arena,
4. Danton and Doug take the drawings and the new commitment out on the recruiting road.
enough is enough
How can you recruit some one to come to this situation? Don't you think that potential recruits hear what is going on at BGSU? If something is not done very soon, we could be in this spiral for the next 4 years.
