Falcon hockey gets fourth recruit
Patrick Tiesling, a forward for the Sioux Falls in the United States (Junior) Hockey League, has committed to play collegiately at Bowling Green.
He’s the second Stampede player to join the Falcons this week. The other was forward David Solway.
Tiesling will gave the Falcons good size with his 6-foot-3, 201-pound body. He has three goals, seven assists and 18 penalty minutes in 32 games this season. Last season, he had three goals, five assists and 59 penalty minutes in 55 games.
Tiesling turned 19 earlier this month and is from Rhinelander, Wis.
The addition of Tiesling and Solway gives BG four recruits next season. The others are goalie Josh Unice of the U.S. Under 18 junior team and Jacob Cepis of Cedar Rapids in the USHL. — GORDON

A forward with 3 goals in 55 games. He will fit in nice into are system of scoring 1 goal a weekend.

While I don't disagree, what we're sorely lacking right now is size. He may be a defensive minded forward, which isn't always a bad thing. If he's a good skater and can keep the puck in play.....

My guess is that we're not burning a scholarship on him. He'll be more of a recruited walk on than anything else. Schueller coached him last year so maybe he saw some potential. Who knows.

If dude has 18 PIM in 32 games this season, I'm guessing he's not all that physical for his size. I don't know for sure, having never heard of the kid prior to this, but it sounds like scraping for a warm body to me.

Any word on Solway? What's his story?

Tiesling commits to Bowling Green
Sioux Falls Stampede forward Patrick Tiesling announced Saturday that he has committed to Bowling Green State University for the 2007-08 season. While at Bowling Green, Tiesling will play with current teammate David Solway who also recently committed to Bowling Green.

Tiesling, who is in his second year with the Herd, has 11 points (3g, 8a) in 34 games this season. Last year, Tiesling recorded eight points (3g, 5a) while helping lead the Stampede to their first ever Anderson Cup Championship.

Bowling Green State University is located in Bowling Green, OH and are members of the CCHA. Former Stampede assistant coach Doug Schueller is currently an assistant with the Falcons.

Tiesling becomes the 12th Stampede player to commit to a Division I program this year. Since the Stampede began play in the USHL in 1999, they have placed over 80 players in Division I programs.

This sounds like us losing out on good players to other schools and just picking up the scraps that nobody else wanted.

You mean like the highest scoring forward in the USHL that will be here next year? Or the goalie from the US under 18 development team, a very elite program that accepts only the best players? Or the highest ranked player in the USHL coming here in 2008?

Get your facts straight. Every team picks up players that are considered recruited walk-ons. Basically we're telling them to try out....if they make it and develop into a high level player there is always the chance that they can earn a partial scholarship down the line. As it is, these players won't receive a scholarship to start out.

You can not hide from the truth. It is what it is. This site is about BG hockey which right now is in the gutter. The main issue is Paluch. So right now people can say whatever they want. You can talk about recruits and refs and facilities and so on and so on. The fact of the matter is that we have a horrible coach that does not know how to win. He was more successful with Buddy Powers recruits than he has been with his own. So yes we can have the best players and the best facilities in the country, but none of that will matter unless Paluch is fired.

So you are right, here we go again. FIRE PALUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This will always be a discussion on this board until he is gone. So get use to it.

Um, no. There's plenty of threads about our coach and situation. Please use those. For the rest of us, let us talk about Falcon hockey and discuss it without doom and gloom.

So I point out the inadequacies of your post and this is the best you can come up with? This thread is about the recruits, not Paluch. There are plenty of those threads if you want to post there, but please keep the other threads on the subject that they were referring to instead of trying to make yourself feel better after having been proven wrong by throwing something totally off subject into the mix.

Boy, is this all this is to you, proving people wrong and making yourself feel good by pointing it out to everyone? Seriously. Besides, I wasn't wrong at all, I don't see how you got this so twisted. I was pointing out that hockey is no different than any other sport at BGSU. We just simply cannot compete in recruiting with these other schools that are better than us, both in the CCHA and in the nation. Look at football and basketball, its not just hockey. When was the last time we brought in a 5-star or 4-star talent? It's no different in hockey. That's why when I see us recruiting a forward who has only scored 3 times in his last 50+ games, that just proves that we can't recruit well. You can't tell me that guy was our first choice to help us at forward, the idea is laughable. So he's just a recruited walk-on, its not wasting a scholie. That's not good enough. And you know he's not going to develop because our coach stinks. How many players on our current team are any good? Whitmore, Matsumoto, maybe Spratt and that's it. The rest of its crap pretty much. Crap to the tone of 6-22-2. That's why I commented about Paluch. As has been mentioned many times in the football forum, you can recruit the best players, but if your coaching staff stinks (which our hockey staff CLEARLY does) you won't be able to develop that talent that you brought in. And when a player doesn't have much talent to begin with, ughh.
