Irish lead 2-1. We are giving them way to many chances in the form of penalties. We were gonna get burned and we have. Lets hope we can stay out of trouble in the ref's eyes and get it done.

Yeah, it seems like anytime ND wants or needs a goal they get it.

That's what good teams do...generate goals when they are needed!

Looks like another typical Falcon weekend, a couple of losses for the icers, a loss for men's b-ball, and a blowout victory for women's b-ball.
All Hail Kate Achter, Ali Mann, Liz Honneger, Carin Horne, et al...

Even though I disliked the way ND played, I still thought our boys stayed really strong and the crowd was bigger today and more involved. I thought it was a great game personally, and I didn't think they played well enough to be called #2.... But that's speculation.

I really think that the CCHA has fallen off from the WCHA and Hockey East in general. There is no way Notre Dame would be anywhere near the top 6 in the WCHA playing like they did this weekend.
I was not impressed, BG probably should have at least gotten a point this weekend.

It's hard to win a game when you're also having to beat the refs. Unbelievably bad officiating this weekend and I do hope we sent a tape to the CCHA.
With that said, I am impressed that the team played as well as they did tonight. In the past we have been a bad second night team, but seemed to play very strong on the defensive side tonight. If only the offense was here, you'd be talking upset.
As far as crowd, I'm actually going to say tonight's crowd sucked. No one was into the game. There were no goalie chants, and overall it was a very passive (but big) crowd. Hell, no one stood up until there were :05 left in the 3rd.
Blaming the refs

It pains me that I haven't been able to get to more than just the one game in Columbus this year, so I don't really know. Are the refs really that much worse than they have been historically? I've seen people complaining about it over and over.
I remember we always used to give Shegos, Piotrowski hell every time they would come in to the Arena, but I honestly never saw that big a discrepancy between bad calls for us and bad calls against us. Is this really a problem or is it an excuse?

Pi was the ref on Friday night and did a decent job for the most part. No one's ever going to be happy with all the calls or non-calls that any ref makes during a game. With that said, however, I personally thought Hoberg wasn't calling nearly enough on ND last night. One instance, in particular, stands out. Petruska gets backchecked to the ice in front of the ref, another guy shoves him in the head (or something like that), again all in front of Hoberg and NOTHING gets called. Petruska was VERY UPSET, which led to his unsportsmanlike conduct call, which in turn, led to the go ahead goal. Yes, it's another ref excuse, but there is NO EXCUSE for not calling that crap when it's right in front of you. ND was not playing that cleanly all weekend long. After that call on Petruska, BGFan yells, "WE WANT WILKINS!!"
Overall, the weekend effort put out by the guys was GREAT!! Too bad they couldn't get a point for it!! I hope they build on it for the weasel game!!!!
One more thing: Jimmy Spratt had his best weekend ever!! The save that was reviewed (to see if he got it after it crossed the line) was FANTASTIC!!
GO ICERS!!
BEAT THE WEASELS!!!!

I honestly didn't think the officiating was all that bad this weekend. The non-call that led to the Petruska penalty was BS, and letting ND hack away at Spratt all night was pretty ridiculous, but I've certainly seen much, much worse than that before.

I think that's because nobody in the building actually thought we were going to win.

I know some will blame the refs, but we just need to shoot the puck more, I mean 8 shots in the 1st, and then 7 the rest of the game
