Man, I gotta feel for the guy. That has to be a pretty painful injury, and he was definitely one of our stand-out Freshmen.

cheekbone is a long way from the heart. I find it hard to believe that anyone else would be out for the season with just a broken cheekbone. Course this kid was a bandaid when he got here, so why should anyone be surprised that he is hurt again.
Yeah

Toughing up pal. I mean come on, he is wearing a face mask. he can have a week off and get right back in the line up for playoffs. We all new he was soft before he even gotto BG. The kid never had a good reputation as is and a cheakbone injury does hurt but not as bad as you would think. There are guys that are playing with much more severe and painful injuries than that.

I have broken my cheekbone and played through it. I know what is feels like. Have you ever broken yours???? If you haven't than you do not know what you are talking about. So no, i am not kidding you. Guys play with worse injuries than that.... There is no reason why he can not play in the playoffs.

This is hockey isn't it. Can't they just wire the thing shut and get his butt back out there?

It's absolute bull that you guys are trying to rag on McIlrath for this. The kid took a hard check, knees first into the boards a few weeks back and still skated it out until the end of the game, is out there skating his ass off every game and is one of the most productive young players we've got. Give me a freaking break already.

In your internal rantings and ravings did it ever occur to you that, along with a broken cheekbone, the kid might - just might - have suffered a concussion along with it? I can't imagine that getting thrown face-first into the boards hard enough to snap a cheekbone
wouldn't jar the brain a bit. But, I know, I shouldn't comment at all because I haven't broken my face before. That makes soooo much sense.

It makes plenty of sense.

You have no idea what it feels like. If the kid got a concussion then maybe he will be out for a week. But he didn't get a concussion. He broke his cheekbone. This is hockey. You get hit into boards you get hurt it is a ruff sport. But to end your season because you broke your cheek bone. Especially when you are 2 weeks away fro playoffs. That is called being soft. That is also how you loose the respect of all your teamattes. I am not m,aking this up. I play hockey, I play and have played hurt with all sorts of injuries. I see guys play everyday on myteam with major injuries. But they play through it. A broken cheeck bone or a concussion is enough to keep you out for a week or so. But not for the rest of the season. I guarantee you all his teamattes think he is a joke for being soft.
The truth is you were never a hockey layer so you do not know what should keep you out for the year and what shouldn't. His injury shouldn't. That is just a fact and you can not argue against it.

You cannot honestly say not playing with a broken cheekbone makes you soft. You do not know the severity of his injury. All you know is that he has a broken cheekbone. Where exactly is it broken at? How big is the break? If he plays, what more damage could he do? Not all breaks are the same. Heck, the break could go up to his eye socket for all we know. Add in the fact that he was wearing a face mask when it was broken and I don't blame him a bit for not playing. Maybe it's a little early to say he's out for the season but, realistically, how long do you think the rest of the season is?

I think it's also important to realize that the decision may not even be in his hands at this point. If the trainers and coaches don't want him risking further injury (being a younger player and our team needing to rebuild), then there's probably not a whole lot he can do about it.
But then again, I'm probably just Todd McIlrath or Scott Paluch posting under a different name or I'm smoking something or I shouldn't speak because I'm just soft and have never played hockey.
Unreal.
