Took in my first BG hockey game with my fellow broadcasters Todd Walker and Jason Aldrich on Saturday before the football game. Glad to see the team play well against LSSU on Sat. I met both Coach Paluch and Fogarty over the summer and the program has our support. Great guys who want to see the program take off once again.
That being said, a decent turnout on Saturday, but lets get more in there for the Irish game this Thursday Night.
Oh yeah, the students chant of "See Ya, Bye-Bye, Jackass" had all three of us roaring. It made an off-air appearance at the football game when Pope scored the TD late to seal it.
Support the hockey squad and GO FALCONS!

Wow!! That's awesome to have your support!! Any chance we might get a REAL radio deal in the near future with you guys? We have only had the student run station for way toooo long. They do an ok, job, especially since they have someone calling the game who does a little better job thaN the students had in the past, but listening to their MORONIC, JUVENILE commercials is enough to lower your IQ points exponentially!!!
Hope we get a LOT of people out for the ND game on Thursday!! ....of course now that the football game has been moved to the afternoon, it would be nice if they moved this hockey game to Saturday evening!!!! I am SURE they would get more fans in attendance than on a Thursday night!!!
GO FALCONS!!!

I thoguth for as small of a crowd as tere was saturday, it was LOUD!!!!
End of the game with the crown on their feet, close your eyes and you'd swear it was a sellout. The fans that go are dedicated ones that really care abotu the team/program. All we need now is to make more people, especially students, feel the same.

If you're referring to a large handful of games from '93-'96 in your "had in the past" comment, I might have to take offense!
But I agree wholeheartedly about the commercials, and commented about them during one of the football games. Too many people have busted their tails in that organization to make it sound as professional as possible given the resources, and to hear commercials like that take away from the credibility of the organization BIG TIME.

I wish I could do radio for BGSU. My friend and I would make an ecellent duo I would aimagine. He is in journalism at BG, so I think you will hear him eventually, but I will likely never get to.

Maybe if you change your major and transfer you could

Going back to the original topic though, hockey does need more fans. I am proud to say I am really getting pumped going to the games. I'm glad I am actually starting to appreciate hockey again and unless there is another football conflict, I won't miss a game!!!

No I wasn't referring to that long ago. I can't remember when 1430/96.7 quit broadcasting the games, but it was after that time, when the students had a hard time doing the games. One guy of the two I remember was constantly talking and missing most of the play. Most of what he said was insignificant to the game, as well. My biggest gripe right now is the commercials. They REALLY do effect the credibility of the program when you listen to the games. It's embarrassing. I don't care if they run those stupid ones during the regular student programming, but please not during the sporting events, especially hockey, when they are the ONLY one broadcasting the event. ...*steppping down off soapbox...*

Is Andy Evans doing the hockey games again this year? I'm pretty sure he did them last year.
He works for 1470 and has a radio show up there on the weekdays, when it doesn't conflict with their ESPN programming or games that they're broadcasting. He was also always live for all the home Mud Hens games. He's a BG grad and a pretty good guy. I participated in the 1470 golf nights thing a couple years ago and met him there. I know he loves BG sports, even though he didn't believe me when I told him we'd beat Purdue in football that year.

I agree about the commercials. I am ESPECAILLY offended by the one where the kid is bleeped out talking about the team traveling to Miami for the playoffs. That's the year we went to #2 Miami and swept them in the playoffs. That commercial should be taken off the air. I don't know his name, but we used to refer to him and his partner as Beavis and Butthead.
Andy Evans is doing the games again this year and for the most part does a good job. He occasionally gets the college game screwed up with the pro game, like remembering that there is no touch up on icing, but that's just me being nit-picky. Another Nit-Picky thing this weekend was that they repeatedly referred to BRANDON Piersol as Brian Piersol during the pre-game. I felt badly for Brandon, he's a local kid who finally got a chance to get some playing time and they screwed up his name.
I think that the students will begin to return, albiet slowly, as we get more quality wins. Which I believe will happen within the next month. Playing ND, Michigan and Michigan State at home in the next month helps this! Fun, close exciting games with this type of competition will lead to word of mouth of how fun the games are.

That's good... cause I know where you live!!! *laugh* Or at least the general direction of where you live!!!
Those commercials are part of the reason I won't even tune in to the WBGU web broadcast and rather rely on random score updates from the football games. That and the little bit I did listen to, I heard them question an opposing coaches play calling and yell "That is just stupid!" VERY unprofessional. Like you said about the commercials, leave that stuff for the daily broadcasting, or for the kid doing midnight to 6 on WFAL. Sports broadcasts are special, and should be treated as such, regardless of the opponent or the score. (thanks for letting me borrow the soapbox!)
I will say that hockey is one of the tougher sports to broadcast, but its also the most exciting by far!

I'm a member of the radio sports organization here at BG and a member of the student station. I appreciate the comments about the broadcasts and hope you will continue to drop me a line on how we can improve the broadcasts and organization overall. I think andy does a pretty good job and continues to improve over last yar. Trust me for hose of you that havent done hockey broadcasts it's a lot harder than you might think. Lets continue our hot start and sweep the irish this weekend...GO BG!!!

I am sure that hockey announcing is VERY difficult with the fast pace of the game! I know that I could never do it!! I applaud those who can! My biggest complaint of the station is only the juvenile, moronic commercials they play over and over and over and over (Mike Jones graduated HOW MANY years ago????)!!! With the number of "seasoned" fans listening, plus the parent and family groups, there just needs to be a different set of commercials for the major sporting events. Still...I am happy that SOMEONE carries the games!!
