Ice House

Post by MACMAN »

Stoped in the icehouse after picking the kids up from school. Much as I think we need a new facility, I would love it if we could just rehab and add a surface to what we have. i just get that feeling every time I go in there its great.
the ice is all gone, only one small water puddle on the south end below the blue line area. So it wont be long untill there is new ice.

So what do you love about our rink?

Low metal ceilings tend to bounce sound back down. Properly motivated, a crowd can get pretty loud in there.

I'd have to say the home ice advantage. When we get the place packed with students, there's no louder rink in the CCHA. The Michigan game this year was a great test to that. The crowd helped win that game.

There is no question that it is a great place to see a game. I just wish we could clean the outside of the building up a bit...New paved parking lot would be good too!

I like the way the sound bounces, I like the fact that even in the back row you're close enough that they can hear you on the ice and I especially like that the student section is starting to fill up more and fill up earlier.

I agree that I like our building. I want our building rehabed rather than a new building or a joint convo center. The question that I have is , with 40 years of water flowing through the walls, is it building structurally sound?

MACMAN we disagree on a few things, but if you want to start a fund raiser, give me a call. I do not have big money, but I'll give til it hurts. It will take you, me and many people and large donors to accomplish what we want.

I grew up coming to games at the Ice Arena, and I would love to see it renovated and expanded rather than replaced. I went up to the MSU game at the end of the season, and I was extremely surprised at how quiet their barn is. Munn Arena didn't sound like there were 6,000+ screaming fans in attendance (even though it was a full house). I felt like I was watching a tennis match, not a hockey game. Besides, there is so much history in the Ice Arena, and I would hate to see it replaced.

Looking around the rink, there's really not a lot of things that need replaced. The building is still structurally sound, the seating is in good condition (for the most part), and the home locker room rivals any other. However, a new coolant system is needed badly. The system we use now is obsolete and nearly impossible to find the right parts for it. The press box needs a renovation pretty badly as there is usually never enough space for everyone.

If I were going to do a mass renovation, I would put some loge's on the South end, replace the coolant system, expand the press box, renovate the visitor's locker room, acid wash the outside walls, put in more hardy landscaping, and replace all the overhangs.

I forgot to add that I love the new boards as opposed to the old ones as well.

Macman - that is the most sensible thing I have ever seen you write on this board. I think that it is a good idea.... it's a start.

That is a good idea, MACMAN. It may be worth seeking out a car dealership around Bowling Green to co-sponsor the effort. Perhaps one might be willing to donate a car to the effort as a PR move, or at least give a significantly discounted price on one. To this, though, I would think it would need to be organized through the Falcon Club or Foundation simply to give the effort some legitimacy. I've no doubt that either entity wouldn't mind helping out with this effort.

I know paul will go for it, as he allready agreed to it for Phez for ever....another option that I have is
HARLEY's FOR HOCKEY
same basic deal, except that there would be 3 prizes a sportster, a Dyna, and Electro glide, the same basic return, just more prizes. The drawing is simple enough as well because all you do is print the tickets so that the drawing is not held untill all tickets are sold, there is a buyer stub with number, a stub an number for the box and a postcard that will be mailed when the drawing is held all on one simple ticket stub.
did I forget to mention...no ticket would be allowed the gay logo :D I would use the ditch witch...
