BGSU already has a goalie

July 31 was the last day to sign any players as per NCAA rules. Well, I know for a fact that Eddie Neville is returning to BGSU this year and is under both academic and athletic scholorship. He turned down a pro offer to play the 2007-2008 season in Helsinki Finland.

He did not get much of a chance last season. Things like 5:30's for most of the season made the situation extremely difficult to play his best.

The reason for the hard way to go was to free up scholorship money for the departed wonder-boy-Unice. No D-1 program has three goalies on scholorship. Each D-1 school only has 18 full scholorships and you can't tie up three scholies on goalies. Simple math.
If Unice will do anything in the future is a crap shoot. Does anyone know who Dwight LaBrosse is? or Chris Gartman or Rob Bonk?...or Tim Roth?
They are all former NTDP (team USA) goalies who did nothing in hockey. Two were drafted. Team USA has been around since 1996 and has put over 50 goalies through the "Program" . Only ONE currently plays in the NHL...Rick Dipietro and he only played ONE season for them(NTDP)

Al Montoya and Jim Howard are two more NTDP wonder boys who are stuck in the AHL. Do you think Al Montoya is going to take Henrik Lundquist job???..LOL Ryan Miller was passed over for Chris Gartman..
What I'm saying here is that just because Unice played for Team Hype(USA hockey) doesn't mean he would have turned around BGSU.

Eddie Neville turned down the pro offer and is returning to BGSU in a few weeks. All he wants is to be a Falcon and play for his school -BGSU. Isn't this the type of person you want on your hockey club???
The last word on his alleged "discpline" issues that resulted in his dismissal from the team was that the school exonerated him and took no action against him..A year ago in Auguest 2006 he was the victim of a violent crime where he was stabbed and seriously injured .Yet in the dismissal letter written by Coach Paluch this incident was referred to as an altercation and not an assault...Can you say "SPIN"? The other discipline issues were exaggerated and misrepresented by the Coach for his convenience to make scholorship money room.

Food for thought..... other players in the past were arrested, yet they were never removed from the team. Ed Neville was never arrested or charged with anything by the police ...EVER.

What pissed off a lot of people is that Unice signed a commitment to play hockey here and held up a proverbial middle finger as he ran away to Canada. You may very well be right about Neville, but 31 isn't on the BGSU roster yet.

The only shots I heard said about Neville was that he was becoming a distraction. However, that source wasn't coming from the players. I will say that Spratt is our goalie at this point. I feel he earned the spot last year.

Jimmy spratt played well for the team and is well-liked by his team-mates and fans. I wrote my post strictly in terms of Unice. Jimmy Spratt is obviously the starting goalie and won a well deserved "Most Improved player" award.

Wow, Chris Gartman. I was with Garts for a season in junior hockey following his brief stint with Colgate. Good player, great guy, but as my empty Google searches have shown and your post confirms he didn't hang on and make it. Shame, he had streaks of being an outstanding goaltender.

I also saw Spratt quite a bit and know that he is much better than he has shown in the brown and orange.

I wouldn't say Jim Howard is stuck in the AHL....Detroit had Hasek and Osgood last year so the brass felt Howard was best served playing every day than sitting a lot. I suspect Howard will be in the mix as a back up this year.

Most people view himand Jakub Kindle as the closest guys to "sure" prospects Detroit has.

i know this sounds bad, but for getting our hopes up I hope that Unice doesn't do well in Kitchner.

Unice= another reason Toledo sucks

I always hope Falcons do well. Since he never stepped foot into a class? Could care less if he ever amounts to anything on the ice.
