Since it will be an alumni band, I'm sure it will be as we remember it.

What is the "card" crap, if I may ask?

"the card" is that little orange card that is given to all when they enter the Ice Areana. It says what chants to yell. I dispise the chant of "we want more, we want more." It is unclever and the Badgers do it. I grew up a Fighting Sioux fan and always hated when the Badgers disgraced us with that crap. I still enjoy the song "Hey" after goals with the crowd yelling "SIEVE YOU SUCK" at the goalie. But hey thats just me I'm sure we can reach into our bag and steal some scum sucking gopher chants too by next year.

Well back in 1984-85 (and a few more years that I attended) the Ice Arena was extremely raucous counting the goals and yelling "We Want More!" after the A-Band played the fight song. Wisconsin may do it, but we did it better!

Im with you Transfer I can remember that chant from as far back as 1975, I associate it wholly with FALCON HOCKEY. I even remember the nights counting up into lofty double digits! :D

I totally agree FF. "SIEVE YOU SUCK" to me is totally a scUM ripoff. That was never a BG original where as We Want More goes back a LONG way!!! Why can't BG have it's own traditions instead of someone elses?

We may have done the goal count it in 84 but the Badgers couidn't hear it. The had their SIX national championship rings in their ears. As for the word Sieve. Its a Canadian thing as is plug. As for BG beeing original...Whats left?

Wisconsin actually had only 4 national championships in 1984. Michigan had more by that time (7). What's the point? Vulgarity is NOT a part of BG hockey nor should it every be.
Vulgarity are for the less creative fans (e.g. weasels and egg suckers.)

Fond regards,
RUIT.

Agreed, RUIT. I still feel uncomfortable with some of the vulgarity that has been added to our cheers since I started going to games. "That's debatable" is a hell of a lot wittier without the "they still suck" attached to it... As for the goal chant... that's been around longer than I've been alive, so I think that it has earned a place as a BG tradition (even if Wisky "borrowed" it).

NO VULGARITY IN HOCKEY!! This is the sport of mass emotion. If the word "sucks" offends you then maybe golf or baseball is your sport. Cussing out the officals, the opponets is part of hockey always has been and always will be. It is part of the passion for the game. I agree that Michigan's penalty chant is extreme as they use every possible vulger word...but come on people THIS IS A GAME WHERE PLAYERS HOOK, SLASH, CHECK, and at other levels FIGHT. To sit back sip tea and slow clap is an insult to the game.[/i]

I don't have a problem with "sucks" other than it's lack of originality, but "jackass" could be a bit far.

With that said, it is hockey. The boys say a lot worse things on the ice. As long as fans are there and supporting the team, it's a good return to where we need to be.

Oh come on Drew. "seeya, bye-bye, jackass" going into the penalty box is probably the biggest tradition we have right now, other than maybe "we want more". If you've got a problem with that, you're definitely up against it. Maybe not as much as our colors being orange and brown, but coming up with a new penalty box cheer doesn't happen overnight.
