CCHA Playoff questions

OK, I can probably find this elsewhere, but a few questions?

How many teams get first round byes?

How many teams get into the playoffs total?

Which of these teams are given home ice?

What are the seedings for each of the games?

Thanks!

Everyone makes the playoffs... 1-4 get byes, 5-8 host 9-12 in the first round best of 3.

5 vs 12, 6 vs 11, 7 vs 10, 8 vs 9

After that, I'm guessing they get reseeded. Not sure of the second round format.

EDIT AFTER RESEARCH:
It looks like the 2nd round is a 2-game total goals series hosted by the top four teams in the regular season. After that, it's a four-team, single elimination tournament at the Joe.

the second round is also best-of-three

Thanks!

So with this being said, if the season were to end right now, we would be a six seed and

A) host Lake Superior in the first round, and

B) Play (Assuming first rd. win) at UM, MSU, Miami, or Notre Dame in the second round.

With this, the first round sounds doable. Getting to the Joe might be a bit tougher.

with the power the top 4 in the CCHA posses this year and they way they played most of the season smart money is banking that making the Show at the Joe is honestly not that likely for any team outside the top 4, even though I would wager that one of them will stumble and falter, and seeing it happen at that moment is not far of a stretch. If college football used a BCS system, it would be impossible. that said, thank god, the only "system" used in playoffs and determining teams is done on the ice. Ferris swept the Redskins last weekend and the RedSkins could well be stumbling. should that carry over to the playoffs and say they drop the first game, and go to a game three I would say I dont see them taking it, right now the way they are playing since Mi pounded on them. I think the Redskins are haviing trouble with the BIG games...but that can all change in a few weeks but right now, they are seemingly in trouble.

Nd could stumble as well as could MI or state.
i like to think right now, that only 3 of the top 4 will make the Joe this year. Its the playoffs anything is possible.

No s**t. The talent gap in this conference from top to bottom is about as wide as the Grand Canyon right now. I really don't think any of the bottom 4 with the exception of maybe Alaska-Fairbanks will be competitive in their first round series. Likewise, I'm not sure anybody will be competitive against the top 4 in the second round. Ferris might have the best shot though, because unlike most CCHA teams, they've actually lost to some bad teams and beat some good ones. Us, we've pretty much lost to who we should and beat who we should. That doesn't favor a second round upset for us IMO.

I do know one thing, if I'm BG, I do NOT, NOT, NOT want to see Notre Dame in the 2nd round. That would be death. Miami and/or Michigan State would be much better.

I disagree, we can take ND, I think after they kicked our asses in the recent series, the guys would not allow for a repeat of that action, no way. Yes, we have not been doing well against them in recent years, but right now I think that has changed, I have nothing other than this to back it up. this team has grown, matured and over achieved this season. they are going to be hosting a play off series and will fight for a shot at the joe. i dont think any of those 4 teams want to face us, in that situation. nothing to loose and two games from making the Joe, when they know that that idea can be just enough fuel to push this team through the glass ceiling that they have been banging their heads against this season, after crashing through others. I give this Falcon team alot more respect and credit than that. Should we exceed expectations this year, and end up one round from the joe, 120 min in all away from the Joe, I fully expect to see this execute to perfection in furious fashion that fast Falcon flow for 120 min.

MACMAN, nobody will ever doubt your perfect love for all things BG. You must, however, learn to see the world through something other than those orange colored glasses. CAN we beat Notre Dame? Sure, it's POSSIBLE.

That said, I agree with 'bgsufalcon24'..."I do NOT, NOT, NOT want to see Notre Dame in the 2nd round." It has nothing to do with growth, maturity or any sort of imaginary glass ceiling. This fact remains: Notre Dame's strengths and our weaknesses are perfectly alligned; they fit together like gears in a precision made clock.

Assuming we advance to the 2nd round, we will be the underdog no matter who or where we play. (That's fine, I think our boys enjoy that role). While winning 2 of 3 on the road is always tough, I like our chances better against any of the three other possible 2nd round opponents (MyAudi, scUM or the Green Egg-Suckers).

Hey...maybe we ought not to be talking about this yet. We wouldn't want anybody to think we wanted to throw this weekend's series away just to avoid a 2nd round matchup with the Irish. I'm ashamed I even thought such a thing.

First things first: Beat Bueller State!

For those who are still confused;
First Round
- Teams 1-4 receive first round byes.
- Teams 5-8 get home ice advantage in the first round.
- Games are a best of 3 series.
Second Round
- The 4 winners from round 1 are re-seeded.
- The 1-4 ranked teams get home ice advantage in the second round.
- Games are a best of 3 series.
The Joe
- Teams are re-seeded one final time.
- All games are played at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit.
- Semi and Final rounds are single elimination, with the losers of the semi finals playing each other for 3rd place.

So, if the season ended today, #5 BG would play #12 Western Michigan at BG. If we win, we would most likely keep our #5 seed and play Notre Dame at the Joyce.

If we were to win, we would be playing Notre Lame at the Joke, I mean Joyce. Notre Lame will host the highest seed after the 1st round. If we finish 6th, and somehow Western manages to win their series (they will play at 5th place, that's a given) and we win ours, we get Notre Lame as we will inherit the 5th seed.

I heard what you had to say, but vs ND its our time now, I like it, I think this team will take them, when the time comes and when the time does come for us to play them lets revisit this conversation and Ill talk more about how were going to bust up the glass ceiling. :D

Well then, it sounds like winning both games this weekend is most definitely NOT in our best interest. Then again, it also depends on how the series with MSU goes, if we get blasted 7-0, 6-2, or something like that then clearly MSU isn't a better alternative.

I'd say that the team I'd most want to play is Miami. That would require us to finish behind NMU and Ferris (the latter not likely seeing as they are facing scUM this weekend). An added bonus would be a probable 1st round series with OSU in the first round.

Seeing as Ferris will probably get swept, I don't see us finishing any lower than 6th.

Man, I just checked out the standings, and WMU is 3-21-2??? Wow. Sucks to be them. It's great for us, but man, that sucks bad for them.

I would love nothing more than to win both games this weekend. Get WMU AGAIN on our own ice and woop them in two games. I would also love to face ND in the second round. If this team is what we all want them to be, its time for them to beat those bastards already.

How nice it was to have them as a clustermate this year.

As a point of reference, BG was 5-22-1 in the CCHA last year. With anything but two wins this weekend, WMU will officially beat that level of suckitude. Couldn't have happened to a nicer school.
