Per above article, Derek may be signing with Buffalo, and might be playing with Rochester Americans very soon. Convenient for Mom and Dad.

Thats awesome to hear. I guess thats a benefit of never being drafted, you essentially can choose which team you want to sign with if you're good enough. Hopefully he can work his way up to the NHL at some point, ala Alex Foster.

Buffalo is dropping Rochester as an affiliate next season. So, he'll have to suit up pretty quick to get on the ice for the Amerks.

Good find on the article, Bill. I read it in this morning's paper and was going to post it.

What's going on with Justin, Jordan and Matsy? How are they faring in the AHL? Any chance of any of them coming up in the closing weeks of the NHL Regular season?

That surprises me since the two cities are so close compared to other affiliates. Who is going to be Buffalo's new affiliate, and who will Rochester be affiliating with.

Well, not sure who "Justin" is, but Jonathan and Jordan are doing well in Providence. Since Boston is in the thick of the play-off race, I don't see either one of them getting called up, unless it's an extreme situation. Matsy is doing great in Philadelphia with the Phantoms. Again, Philly is fighting for a play-off spot, so I think it would probably take alot for Jonathan to get called up. And of course, Alex Foster has been up a couple times with Toronto. It's great to see all these former Falcons doing well.

GO FALCONS!!!!!!

I highly doubt Jordan will ever do much with the Bruins. Tuukka Rask is the #1 goalie in Providence (he's played 41 games to Jordan's 15) and top goalie prospect in their system so I'd be surprised if Jordan ever gets much of a sniff at the NHL. I'd like to hope that Matsumoto and Jon Sigalet can eventually make it up. Matsy is doing a lot better in his first year in the AHL than Foster did, for what its worth.

Jordan Sigalet: http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdis ... ?pid=56750

Matsumoto: http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdis ... ?pid=84813

You can also use that hockeydb site to look up stats for pretty much any player who played college, junior or pro hockey regardless of how long ago they played.

My bad on the "Justin" thing...it's been a rough couple of days...my apologies.

Rochester management screwed up badly and Buffalo wants nothing to do with them. Rochester most likely ends up with Florida Panthers. No word on who Buffalo is going with.

My take is that if Rochester is sold to new investors, they'll be back with Buffalo.

I see Matsy making an impact on an NHL team. Jon Sigalet will be an AHL drifter meaning he will bounce from team to team making brief stops in the NHL, but a predominantly AHL career. Jordan on the other hand will never be an NHL goalie. Whitmore can make a contribution as an energy liner to an NHL team.

Whit has signed a 2-year deal with the Sabres and he'll be with the Americans for the remainder of their season. Congrats to Derek!

The Sabres contract begins for the '08-09 season. He signed a 2 1/2 week "amateur try-out" contract with Rochester.

Based on the article in today's paper, he seems pretty stoked about playing in his hometown.

Whitmore's first game tonight against the Manitoba Moose turned out pretty well. The Americans won 5-4 in a shootout. Whitmore got a boarding penalty 34 seconds into the game, I'm assuming he was just going all out on adrenaline on his first pro shift and ran somebody. He didn't register any points but he did take a shot as the last shooter in the shootout but missed. I guess they're showing some confidence in him already. Here is the box score:

An update from the guys in the A:
Alex Foster: 16-26-42 +18 24 PIM
Jonathan Sigalet: 3-16-19 +18 52 PIM
Jordan Sigalet: 8-5-1 .095 SA 2.64 GAA
Jonathan Matsumoto: 19-22-41 +6 52 PIM

It looks like all of them are going to be playing for the Calder Cup as well.
