Pres-Season Face Off Reception and Pre-season scrimmage

I am considering attending the Pre-Season Face Off Reception on October 2 at Sebo Athletic Center. For those of you who have attended in the past, is it worth the $25? Is it a good opportunity to get to know the players close-up? Are reservations needed?

Also with the 12 Noon time of the exhibition game against Wilfred-Laurier that Saturday (4th), will that serve as the opportunity to have the players sign the big schedules as has happened in the past after the inter-team scrimmage?

Thanks to anyone who has any information.

We enjoyed the reception last year. I'm sure you will have to sign up for it, so they can plan refreshments. It was a small party last season, it would be nice to have more fans there.

I think it was on the season ticket form. You can find it in the tickets section of the BG athletics website.

They lowered the price. \:D/ Here's the info from the Falcon Club:

Bring your poster and get it signed! The guys will be wearing their jerseys and will be the waiters serving the food!! It's quite amusing to watch them!! The room isn't that big, so it's easy to get a chance to chat with any or all of them.

I really appreciate those answers. Just what I needed. By the way, how do you get the posters? The last few years I got them at the annual Meet the Team scrimmage, and the players were available for autographs. But there is no scrimmage this year.

Thanks again!

I'll check and see if they can bring some to the event.

So how was the Face off Reception on Thursday night? Who was there? What did they have to say about the season? Any Falcon hockey greats in attendance? Just curious how it went.

Actually, it was more attended than it was last year. All in all, a very nice night with the coaches and the boys. Coach Paluch said the team will be speedy and feisty (which the Wilfrid-Laurier exhibition game on Saturday proved). They had the 1984 championship game playing on the flat screen TV. Alot of the guys were standing around watching that. Surprise guest speaker was Mike Pikul, Captain of the '84 Championship team. Mike gave a very nice speech, he talked about the '84 Championship team, and he challenged the boys, the fans, and the University to get Falcon Hockey back to where it should be! :) Mike did a great job as the master of ceremonies for the auction too. Among other items, the team signed jersey went for $260 I do believe, and the 2-DVD set of the 1984 championship game went for $150 (I should know, I'm the one who won it) :) Mike was gracious enough to autograph it for me. In fact, Mike autographed anything anybody wanted him to. Again, all in all, it was a fantastic night with the hockey team. I really enourage all BG hockey fans to come to this next year at the Sebo. It really is a fun night and you get to meet and talk with the coaches and players. Well worth it!

GO FALCONS!!!!!

Jim,
great summary. Thanks a million. Got any idea where I might purchase a copy of the 1984 national championship game? I would love to have that on DVD. Can't wait for friday night.

Ahhhh..the age old question. To which, I still haven't been able to get a straight answer from anyone. Somebody holds the copyright to this thing, and will not let it be sold to the general public. Last Thursday at the Sebo was the first time I had seen some of that game since I watched it on TV in '84. Very few copies are out there, and I just don't get why they aren't allowed to sell it. But unfortunately, the University can't. Sorry, but I can tell you....the Falcons WIN!!!! :)

ROLL ALONG!!!!!

I honestly think the answer to the '84 game question is that no one honestly knows who has the rights to the game.

Sure seems that way to me. Especially with the NCAA releasing that site with all kinds of championship games for sale, yet the '84 game is nowhere to be seen. Seems really odd.

While the hockey program is benefitting from using it as an auction item and donor gift, you'd have to think they'd make a killing from selling it and could practically name their price. (If, of course, they even knew who held the rights.)

Maybe someone at Minnesota Duluth knows. I have e-mailed our AD a few times on this but never get a response.
