So I'm assuming it wasn't the 10-1 exhibition win we became accustomed to in the mid-90's?

It was tied at 1 going into the third. Yes, we won 5-1, but I wasn't impressed. They played ok. Problem is, ok isn't gonna win very many games in the CCHA.

Wilfrid Laurier is not the pushover Winsdor is. From what I heard it was sloppy, but still a convincing win. A great day in Sports. BG wins and Ottawa loses.

Spratt is looking good between the pipes, his movement is much improved and from what I saw today he is going to have a great year.
I have to admit I was worried about how we would hold up against this Golden Hawks team. They are all good players, but they are comparatively huge...
I must fess up...I would kill for BG to have Mike LeClair...6'5 and 250lbs...and he plays a rather old time game...but thats me. Back on track it was like grinding out for our football team against an OSU. I was worried they would grind us down, yet the guys lite a fire and stuck it to them and started played a great game, coming into their own in the 3rd. Good to see that much dedication to winning and playing the whole game and using all that speed.

The shoot out was a complete lame POS as they always are.

Glad to see Mark Voakes doing well. He was frustrated by the way he was treated at BG (familiar story).

Laurier already had several games under its belt coming in to yesterday's game, so the Falcons did well to learn how to play together in a game.

Our guests arrived in a pretty, orange bus. We need one like that.

I read the write-up on the team website. Schmidt says that the team only had one official practice before playing this game. With Wilfrid Laurier having already played three games it's no wonder we looked a little sloppy. (But I wasn't there so who's to say?)

I also saw in the stats that we had 7 defensemen dressed (Schmidt, Maxwell, Petiot, Page, Bailen, Moore and Sinkewich). Did they all see time on the blueline or are the coaches trying to convert one of them into being a forward?

I know I SAW all of them out there...though I can't remember how much of Petiot I saw.

I didn't think it was a horrible game. I enjoyed the third period where we drove to the net a little more but for only having one official practice I thought that game was decent. Not amazing, but decent. Cepis looked really good...and fast.

Of those 7 d-men only 3 played a regular shift consistently last season, given 2 of them weren't on the team last year. I also heard that Wade Finegan, who only played in 4 games last year, played a decent amount of minutes. I'm not at all worried by how the game went given that the freshmen are just adjusting to college hockey and guys like Wade Finegan played a regular shift.

I'm not saying we played horrible. I just don't think we looked as good as we should have. The guys have been skating together informally all summer. I guess I was expecting a little less slop. I imagine the team will look a lot better Friday night.

I also was not impressed with the play.

I though Cepis was trying to do too much, but that's not all bad. If opponents give him extra attention, that'll leave his teammates open. He he gets no extra attention, he'll put the biscuit in the basket (I'm hoping there'll be no sophomore slump).

Where was Eno?

I thought maybe Paluch would put Greer in to get him some ice time.

Bailen's goal was amusing. It nearly got the goaltender between the eyes but clanged off the right side of his helmet instead.

While it may not have been impressive its better then a worthless 12-1 beating of Windsor. It could be worse over on another board I post on a Miami fan said they needed a game winner with 3.6 left to win their exhibition game

Certainly, it wa good to play a team that gave the Falcons some good competition. Combine that with the fact that the falcons have only had (at most) a week of team practice, they didn't look too bad.

UNFORTUNATELY, the power play STILL hasn't changed...it's going to be a LONG year on that front!
