Jimmy Spratt

Post by dforde »

Why did coach P leave Jimmy in the game tonight? After 5 or 6 goals he should have pulled Jimmy. Jimmy's tank is on E.

Everyone here knows I wanted Paluch fired like...2 years ago...but I don't see what choice he really had here...Do you throw Phil Greer in against that firing squad? I don't think so.

As far as Jimmy's tank being on empty...I think only Jimmy can answer that, but there are a LOT of goalies in this league (see Lerg of MSU, Pierce of ND, etc.) that play pretty much the entire season...alone. If he's honestly on empty this early in the season, I have to question the conditioning aspect. That being said, I DO NOT blame most of the losing on Jimmy. There's only so much a guy can do with the majority of this team having such piss poor talent in front of him and behind the bench, which is just embarrassing. Sorry, I'm not OK being fighting for 6-8 in the CCHA...NONE of you should be either!

Go FALCONS!

Erika, I'm not OK with 6-8 either but that's going to be our reality. I certainly don't blame Jimmy for this because everyone in front of him had an awful night. ND is in a different league to us. Very frustrating weekend for BGSU athletics.

Jimmy can't be blamed for last night's loss when we can't score more than 1 goal. For the life of me, I have no idea what Paluch was thinking leaving Spratt in as long as he did. He should have been pulled once it got to 5-1 and Greer could get some game experience. What's the worse thing that happens? You lose 10-1 or 9-1?

Oh, wait....

Enough is Enough...It's NOT OK!

Post by TheKa »

Dforde, I realize that 6-8 is the best we can hope for and is our reality. Believe me. I've lived and breathed the reality of this program for the 32 years that I've been living and breathing on this planet. I KNOW the tradition...and it doesn't have to be this way. I was there when....

...The entire crowd chanted "Wally! Wally!" (Was the 78 team better than the 84 team? Discuss!)
...George McPhee won his Hobey Baker (and Brian Holzinger won his!)
...Kenny Morrow and Mark Wells were Falcons and not immortalized on Banners or in a Disney Movie.
...John Markell was a FALCON and not a BUCKEYE!
...Brian Hills missed the penalty shot at the Joe that is famously featured in a picture on the wall of Munn Ice Arena. Goalies should NOT throw their sticks into the crowd!
..."One minute to the Joe! One minute!" Which signaled the kids running to the locker room door and the parents running to line up for tickets.
...Mike David taught me how to skate.
...The line to get into the arena was all the way out to Mercer Road...no matter who we were playing or what the weather was like.
...There was a snowstorm or two or three and there was still more people in the stands then there was last weekend!
...you had to step over people sitting on the stairs just to get to the bathroom and it was 10 deep around the glass.
...Sections A and H were the place to be...to be CREATIVE...to not steal cheers. "Weiss on Ice!" Buluah's Bugle anyone? (I know I spelled that wrong, I was a little kid, sorry! :) )
...For FOUR LONG OTS! 'nuff said!
...For the THOUSANDS of people that welcomed that special team home...mohawks, beer hats and all.
...Marc Potvin (God rest his soul) throwing up some sort of purple liquid all over the ice and Jerry York wearing Soda thanks to the unruly WMU fans. "Daddy please don't get arrested!"
...ND was originally in the league and NMU was too...with a one man band!
..."GO GREEN! GO WHITE! GO SUCK AN EGG!!" 'nuff said!
...Michigan was horrible...yes, there was a time, pre-Red.
...you actually had to EARN a trip to the CCHA playoffs.
...PC took a puck to the throat, stayed prone on the ice for what seemed like FOREVER, got up-won the game and the CCHA playoff Championship and the MVP. I wonder if he still has those golf clubs?
...We lost the heart and soul of the team. RIP Terry!
...Truck got his nickname.
...All I wanted to be when I got older was taller than Kruzer!
...OSU's Pooley brothers...the CCHA's version of the Hansons.
...when a bunch of Freshman beat an undefeated MSU squad-ON A SUNDAY!
...and so many more memories!

Unfortunately, I have also been there when...
...the team finished dead last- again and again.
...the team had single digit wins year after year!
...the team was shut out as many times as they won one season.
...A former Falcon's little brother came to BG for a hockey camp, only wanting to play for BG and Paluch wouldn't even acknowledge him. Let's call this player Scrappy-Do.
...A Grandson/Son of an automaking giant broke his arm at the same camp, came back and the end of camp and was denied the one thing he wanted...a tour of the locker room/alumni room. His family could've written a check for a new arena for God Sake!
...A player was dismissed from the team, without merit or explanation. When said player asked for one, was told "JUST GET OUT!" With no eye contact, FYI.
...Listening to the senior speeches of '04-'05. One of them had the cahones to tell it like it is. The kid wasn't lying and he was EXACTLY RIGHT!
...word started spreading like wildfire around the Canadian leagues about what playing at BG was REALLY like!
...Two weeks ago when another tradition was single handedly destroyed. What's wrong Paluch? Are you worried about what the parents might hear? They aren't stupid.
...I could go on and on...and on...but you get the point.

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!! THIS IS NOT OK!! But I must be a glutton for punishment, because I'll still be there...long after the ship is righted again.
Go Falcons!

Hey Erika, what do you think we need to do to get back to those great days? I discovered hockey in the mid 80's when I moved to the United States from Ireland. I got to see the Hartford Whalers play. It was the first time I had ever seen a sheet of ice never mind an actual hockey game. I discovered BGSU hockey when I came to grad school here in the early 90's I enjoyed reading your list but never got to experience much of it Wish it could happen again.

Thanks for sharing. I really enjoyed your post.

Did Pooch not allow the boys to sing the sweep song after sweeping NMU? If so, that's a joke.

No, that's not what I was referring to, but that's an interesting question...one that I would be interested in hearing the answer to. ShaneFalco, check your PMs for the answer to your question...

Erika
Thanks for the trip down memory road, sorry a small tear just
to my eye, sorry now that is burning rage.
Dforde - Start out with the University grow a pair. Fire Coach Paluch, bring back Reirden, grow a pair and go to the state for $ 8 mil, and raise another $12mil from the fans/corporate. A second sheet of ice. Remove the upper walls, put in pillars, go west, north, and east over the grass and concrete. Make a viewing area up there. You now have room for concessions and more bathrooms. Under that area you have room for Baseball offices, Softball and tennis offices, locker rooms for these sports and indoor batting cages.
Obviously we need the ice making equipment , lighting , sound system,
new banners and all the other stuff.

How much was raised for the basketball arena? Is that project on a State
capital development hold like the ice arena? If the University can raise that amount of $$ for Basketball ( and Volleyball ) , we can raise that amount for Hockey, Baseball , and Softball.

Ok, so now I'm curious about what tradition got dumped. I'm stuck down here in Florida and not able to see any games. Could someone PM me with what's going on. Thanks.

Go Falcons. Wish I could be there to cheer them on in person rather than watching Game Tracker.

Oh, and thanks Erica for the walk down memory lane. I remember soooo many of those. Ah for the good old days.

Sweep Song

Post by freddiethefalconBG »

Paluch not letting the boys sing the song sounds about right.

He use to try and tell us we need to change that song when we would sing it after a sweep. We would just ignore him. There was no way we aeren't singing that song. Paluch is one of those guys that just kills anything that is good. it is almost like he sees you having to much fun and has to try and make things miserable.

His excuse for wanting us not to sing the song was because there are a few curse words in the song. Come on now, we are hockey players plus this song is BG hockey tradition and traditions like this should not be stopped.

This is a song that has been passed down from generation to generation of BG hockey players. The best part about it is when Poochface played at BG he passed it down and I know this for certain because we asked his teamattes and they said yes he did. Poochface needs to grow up. The problem is he never will. Paluch is the biggest hypocrit I have ever met.

Like theKA said in her post earlier, one of my teamattes gave a senior speech back in 2005 and everything he said was 100% true. People should have listened to what he said because he hit it right on the head.

FreddietFalconBG,
What Theka was referring to was not a sweep song.
It was a differant tradition.
If I can figure out how to PM you, I will explain.
