AS ICE HOCKEY SECRETARY-RULES EDITOR

INDIANAPOLIS -- Steve Piotrowski, one of the most respected and accomplished on-ice officials in college hockey history, has been named NCAA Ice Hockey Rules Committee secretary-rules editor. Piotrowski assumes the role vacated by former St. John’s (Minnesota) University coach John Harrington, who announced his departure in April to coach professionally in Switzerland.
“Steve’s experience and passion for the game make him the ideal person for this position,” said Jim Knowlton, chair of the Ice Hockey Rules Committee and director of athletics at Rensselear Polytechnic Institute. “He is a respected figure in college hockey and has the skills required to continue to help improve our game.”
Piotrowski served as a NCAA on-ice official with the league for 26 years before retiring last year to become director of officials for the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA). Piotrowski officiated in the Division I Men’s Ice Hockey Championship 14 times, including six national championship games. Piotrowski also served the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) as a referee in World Championship and World Junior Championship events.
“I am honored and excited to be selected and look forward to serving the NCAA and the sport of college ice hockey in a very positive manner,” said Piotrowski. “This opportunity allows me to contribute back to a sport I care so much about.”
Piotrowski graduated from Ferris State University in 1982, where he was an ice hockey student-athlete.

Wow...didn't know he graduated from Ferris! Thought he was an MSU alum the way he favored them, especially up at the Joe....

"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

Love or hate his officiating, Pio is a heckuva nice guy. Back in the day when he was still officiating he would always be more than willing to talk to fans about the game and rules of hockey.
