Head Coach Laviolette is fired and replaced byPaul Maurice assistant coach Ron Francis, heres a quote from the GM

“We have a team right now that, in my opinion, is not playing with the kind of confidence it needs,” Rutherford said. “We probably have a handful of players who are playing to our expectations. That leaves a lot of players who have more to give.”

I didn't realize that BG had a GM . Francis is one of my favorite all time players and one of the best all around players ever to lace up.

Amen to that. Stupid Zarley Zalapski. :x

In other news, I think it's interesting that the Canes went back to Maurice as coach. Outside of the 2002 run to the Cup Finals, he seemed to be perpetually on the chopping block. Though I guess that's no different than Laviolette outside of 2006.

What I'm saying is, he didn't work once in Carolina and worked even less in Toronto...what is it with NHL teams wanting coaching sloppy seconds?

Or any sloppy seconds according to Avery?

haha yeah I still can't believe he said that. Then again, it is Sean Avery. He's probably just mad because in addition to taking his girlfriend, Phaneuf is also a lot better player than him. I can't stand the guy.

This may sound a bit strange, but I'm not all that opposed to Sean Avery, at least not from a media/public relations standpoint.

He dates hot young models and says things that are stupid, but they're usually things that make you chuckle and go 'what a jerk' as opposed to earning him outright hate. In that regard, he brings some attention to hockey which is, in this country, the fourth major sport (whether I like it or not).

It's not like he shot himself in the leg last weekend.
Or choked his coach.
Or kidnapped his pregnant girlfriend and killed her.

He does bring attention to the league without a doubt. The only hockey segment I've seen so far on ESPN's E60 show focused on him. Heck, even CNN talked about the comments he made yesterday.

All the time in hockey you hear people talk about players who "You hate to play against but you love to have on your team." From what I hear, Avery's own teammates don't even like him. Marty Turco was pretty disgusted yesterday after the comments and Avery pretty much got kicked off the LA Kings. He supposedly also used to make fun of Dustin Brown in the locker room, one of his own teammates in LA, who happens to have a speech impediment. The only reason he's in Dallas is because he's buddies with one of their co-GMs Brett Hull, and after yesterday's comments he doesn't even seem to be backing him anymore.

Exactly. If the NHL's worst PR nightmare is a guy busting on other guys for cleaning up his puck bunnies, it can't be all that bad.

The NHL isn't exactly spotless. Nobody forgets the images of goons two-handing guys in the face.

But yeah, cleanest of the four so it seems. Gaining on the NBA in popularity, too. HD helps hockey more than any other sport.

I'll take three instances of guys swinging sticks in a decade over a week in the life of Pacman Jones, thanks.

Just reminds me of last year during the playoffs when he called Brodeur a "fatty". I don't like him, but he cracks me up.

He made fun of Jason Blake for having cancer, Jerome Iginla a monkey and was kicked off the Kings for the rest of the year for it, he calls arguably the best goalie "fatso" and now ticks off Phanuef and Jarrett Stoll. And the coward won't fight anyone either. He has been saved by the instigator rule.

As for Paul Maurice......guys a joke. Thought last years leaf team was a cup contender.

It is weird, but I remember watching that game. I was a senior in high school, my dad and I were watching that game. Jim Schoenfeld just lost it. The Devils got killed that game and he went after Koharski. It would have been great if Koharski told him to "learn how to coach".
