If you could hire a new coach...

Post by rood »

who would it be? The only rule is that you have to be realistic. Scotty Bowman is not going to come out of retirement to coach at BGSU.

My pick: P.K. O'Handley, current head coach of the Waterloo Blackhawks in the USHL. He's had one losing season since 1995, loads of experience in juniors and as an assistant in the ECHL. Also is currently coaching two of our recruits.

There are some former NHL players who talk about wanting to coach, some of them could be worth taking a chance on as they have 0 coaching exp at this point.

more likely tagets
Jim Louge Assistant BC
Scott Koberinski from UND
or Red Gendron currently an assistant at UMass could be just what we need.

there are lots of good choices.

This is tough. There is quite obviously a troubled culture in the locker room.

Do you hire outside of any familiarity with the trouble [cleanse the slate] or hire familiarity to directly remedy the trouble?

If it's the former, you could try to get Rierden, Cole, or Fogerty back. But, by past comments on this board Fogerty was one of the problems. I don't know, but his work with Adrian College has been notable.

I don't know the answer, but I have confidence in Christopher. When he decides to do something, he will find that answer. In my view, he has excelled in hiring.

Last season I was really hoping Rierden was Paluch's replacement, then in the spring I got the news he was going to the AHL. A great opportunity for Coach Rierden but a major setback for BG Hockey. He would have turned the program around and his passion for BG Hockey and the sport in general was refreshing and inspiring!

One of the best young head coaches in the game applied (don't know if he was ever interviewed, just read about it in the papers) at BGSU before Paluch was hired. His name, Guy Gadowsky former Alaska head coach now head coach at No.6 nationally ranked Princeton Tigers.

I just meant Guy Gadowsky would be a good hire and someone with head coaching experience that has no BG ties.
