Thoughts on the new horn?

Post by Bleeding Orange »

Just curious what everyone thought about the new horn this past weekend?

Personally, it made a 9-3 butt-whooping a bit easier to swallow because I felt like a kid in a candy store everytime it went off! Now all we need is the text board wrapping around the Ice Arena just like in (league formerly knows as) the NHL!

Am I getting a bit ahead of myself?

Can we get the weird smell out of there first?

I totally agree. The locker-room smells and so does the bench.

We might get our own players to do it, but I don't think we could convince our opponents to wear perfume!

Let's face it -- hockey players stink!

From where I sit, the horn wasn't very loud. Had there been a good-sized crowd, I doubt that I would have heard it at all. The colored lights were just visible. I also found it odd that the red lights were flashed when penalties were called against the visitors.
At Lake State, their ship's horn vibrates the whole building. Notre Dame's horn is hung over center ice and can be heard loud and clear.

I heard it and it was loud. I was sitting at the top of section D. I wonder if they will put it in a more permanent location or if the old organ area is it? I am sure they are experimenting. Can't wait to hear it go off 6-8 times each night this weekend!! BGBill, you could email Buddy and let him know what you said here on this post!! He really is trying to improve things in the arena. (Anyone notice the new signage hanging around? And the landscaping outside...though the cold is kind of killing it right now)

GO ICERS!!
GROUND THE REDHAWKS!!!

Before the game, I was thinking about how loud the horn might be, and thinking about the one at the Soo, and then I looked up at the fluorescent lights, and thought, "Oh #&%$!, this could be a disaster"!

I LOVED the new horn! It's been awesome to see the improvements from my first hockey game 2 years ago. Whoever is in charge of this, keep up the good work! :)

As someone who listens to the games via the internet, if I hadn't known that there was a new horn, I would never have heard it. I really had to listen hard to make it out. It must be aimed away from the broadcast booth. But, hey, I'm willing to let them test it out a lot this weekend. :D

Go Falcons. Beat the Red whatevers.

Well, beggars can't be choosers.

At the UT game Tuesday I sat in front of the people who made the horn. The older man asked me if I went to hockey games and what I thought of the horn. After I just about freaked out about it, he nuged his son and said that he had built it. They donated the horn to the University!

That is one of the coolest things that I have ever heard, and I had no idea that it was a donation.

I used to think that it should be louder, but now that i know where it came from, I wouldn't want anything else in the Ice Arena. Sure, we could probably get a donation from a wealthy alum and go buy a boat horn, but I don't think that it would be built by a BG fan, and it really doesn't get any cooler than that in my opinion!

I never did get their names, but I did refer them to this site. If you guys show up, thank you again. This father-son duo is something that we should all aspire to!

That's sweet that they donated the horn! Gotta love the alums! When I'm older (and marry a rich husband  ) I hope I can make cool donations to the university like that.

Can't wait till the next home hockey game...it's been too long since I've been able to go to one! :)
