According to Today's (2/4/09) article in the Sentinel Tribune, Russ Sinkewich has left the team for a team in the East Coast Hockey League.
From my understanding, he has signed with the Johnstown Chiefs.
Best of Luck to Russ and his amazingly awesome family! I'll miss chatting with his Mom during the games!
GO FALCONS!!

Its awesome for Russ getting this opportunity to play in the ECHL, tough loss for the falcons team and they now really scraping to put together a D lineup, gonna miss 44 on the ice.

I'm pretty surprised to see him leave, but maybe I'm out of the loop. Especially considering he's a second semester senior. I wonder if he already graduated or still plans on graduating later.
Either way, hopefully everything works out for him in the ECHL.

I believe he has finished all the classwork necessary to graduate, just needs to complete an internship, which ne plans to do this summer. (doing marketing in the St Louis Blues organization).
Good luck Russ!

Good luck Russ!
Our Defense just took a tremendous hit. I never thought Russ got the playing time he deserved. He'll be in the NHL 2 or 3 years from now.

Russ officially finished his degree this past December with a degree in Sports Management. He has been taking the minimum misc supplemental courses to stay eligible during the second semester.
I talked with a player Saturday morning, he told me that Russ and the coaching staff had a big disagreement about Russ's skill and ability to play a regular shift on a D1 program. Saturday night he was obviously a health scratch since he was not in the lineup.
i dont understand what the coaching staff want out of Russ that he is (was) not providing. For the past four years he has always came in 1st or 2nd in fastest skater during team skills comp, he is a defensive defense man, he is big and mean.
I dont feel like Russ every got the shot or time he deserved. He was recruited by both KP and Foogs. Paluch never believed in Russ as a player. Typical Paluch characteristic holding favourites instead of being a coach and playing on pure skill and what someone brings to a team

although he made some strides this year with his physical play, russ never played up to his size.. in the last 8 games or so he started to get much more agressive which should also increase with this opportunity

I like how no one here even bothers getting upset anymore that we are losing players left and right haha

I agree! This isn't good for our D but for Russ's career its probably a good move. He was an underrated d-man he has good size and a pretty solid defenseman... I think he'll do good on a pro team.

I think most are a little troubled, the season has been crap, players leaving, etc. Rusty is a senior everyone knows he wont be back next year anyway...Its not too shocking he'd leave since the seasons almost over and BG is probably not going to win the CCHA playoffs!!

It is disappointing that we won't get to give Russ a deserved ovation on Senior Night". Don't be surprised to see him show up on some NHL highlights on Sportscenter 3 or 4 years down the line. Man, this has been another awful week for BGSU hockey.

Agreed. A few people wanted to make signs for him.
Good luck, Russ!
