Please, someone, remind me(or point me to a thread(s) where it's discussed) why they can't put a sheet of Ice in the Stroh Center...
It's no shock that a few years after the new Goggin opens, Miami is in the Nat. Championship game. Jack Vivian basically said a new building is out... Can "renovations" to the ice arena even put us on a competitive footing with these other programs and facilities?
Stroh Center
The cost of building have a multi-use facility has been reported to be too high (roughly $90 million, I think they said?) not to mention the annual costs of maintaining a staff to change from hockey to basketball 20 or more times a year. On top of that, the Ice Arena would still have to be maintained to some extent for use as a practice/community rink.

Falcfan, sounds like the right thing to do. The renovations the the old ice arena are costly. Put that money (8-10mil.) towards the new ice arena. Yes why not put 15-20 mil. and add onto the back side of the Stroh Center? It really don't need to be state of the art building but super nice. Sell the old ice arena to the city to help fund the new building.

lol... sell the building to the city? really? think about it... why? The city can't afford the building, you lose valuable property that the university could use... the university is land locked... you are not giving up that space.
What is the value of an ice rink that can be nothing else without serious renovations? If I was the city... I'd bid... and bid low... considering they would be the only bidder.

IF you would like to see all of the studies that have been done over the years as well as the most recent that led the University to decide on the current course, I'm sure an appointment with the AD would help.falcfan wrote:Please, someone, remind me(or point me to a thread(s) where it's discussed) why they can't put a sheet of Ice in the Stroh Center...

(and yes, that is quite the run on sentence0 thank you)
It ends up not being a GREAT facility for either sport. There is a lot of grumbling about the Schott with all of the changing back and forth and practice time etc. In no way, am I comparing our facility to the Schott, just that that it is tough to get a great venue doing both.

Also, Miami had 1 (one)-1 alum write a $5 million dollar check toward the new hockey arena. I believe Bowling Green's efforts to raise funds for hockey have been pretty well documented and discussed over the past few weeks.falcfan wrote:Please, someone, remind me(or point me to a thread(s) where it's discussed) why they can't put a sheet of Ice in the Stroh Center...
