Yep....they're basically trying a different tactic by stating that one of the primary purposes of the building is public use, therefore funding can come from a different source. Whatever..... As long as they can secure some of that money for whatever reason, I'm happy. The amount doesn't really come close to covering everything that needs done but it will definitely help.Freddie wrote:Anybody else see the irony in this?
A reduction is STATE funding set off this crisis, now potential new STATE funding becomes part of the solution.
Oh well...keep the faith friends. BG Hockey will be back, better and stronger than ever.
No problem is too small for the government to make bigger.Freddie wrote:Anybody else see the irony in this?

Last I checked it was Bowling Green STATE University.FalconTurf wrote:No problem is too small for the government to make bigger.Freddie wrote:Anybody else see the irony in this?

Don't count on this funding being anymore than a mess-maker.
And this will add another layer of STATE to the mess. The problems here will be solved by the donors, private donors not by the various STATE entities with all their strings.dstubb wrote:Last I checked it was Bowling Green STATE University.FalconTurf wrote:No problem is too small for the government to make bigger.Freddie wrote:Anybody else see the irony in this?

I beg your pardon if I am misinterpreting your assertions, but I have to say that state funds and private funds are not mutually exclusive. Were the university to accept the state money, there are no 'string' that would ever prohibit private fund raising to supplement any renovation project.FalconTurf wrote:Take the money IF it comes through depending upon the strings attached.
The original patch project planned by the University was budgeted at $4 million before the plug was pulled and MAY be replaced by the state representatives with $1.5 million if I understand correctly. And the joy I should feel is over $4 mill. in STATE funding being replaced with $1.5 mill. in STATE funding?
Additionally I suspect this layer of government will attach more strings to OUR tax money for use on this project which may result in this new funding being a wash or worse depending on what legislature expectations come with the money such as unfunded guarantees on use and operations controlling committees.
Ultimately I believe Mr. Vivian and his committee will determine $4 million or even the new grand figure of $1.5 million to be far from the price tag necessary to bring the facility to an acceptable level of operation. And the longer we wait more damage occur to the structure.
I need more evidence to believe this new source of money is anything more than an attempt to endear legislators to voters and seize more control of operations. The need for private funding is just as great if not greater than before (depending on the strings attached).
I thought that the first $4 mil was coming from the U and the additional $4 mil was from private donations (former players and fans). Anyone else remember it this way? That original information feels like I heard it YEARS ago compared to the roller coaster ride we've been on since the middle of March!!!Bleeding Orange wrote:Edit: I forgot to add that I believe the original $4 million sum was intended to be a combination of private dollars and AD funds. There was never any special facilities allocation from the state that was in play in that situation, so the notion that the university would be trading $4 million for $1.5 million is beyond absurd, to the point of insanity.
