Hope the link works. The initial story on the beginning of the end or the beginning of the future of BG hockey.

Reading the article the one point made that I think must be inplemented for hockey to succeed here is the hockey endowment fund. If this doesn't become a reality I think hockey may be doomed.

We are headed in the right direction now!! The fact that many of the recommedations (from Jack Vivian's committee) are going to be implemented NOW, is just fantastic news!!!

What we need now is way to show the feasibility study firm, Bentz Whaley Flessner, how deep the support for Falcon Hockey goes!! Maybe we need to get someone from that firm to look on the Facebook account!! :-D

Or...we could email them directly and show our support and tell them how we feel about Falcon Hockey!! [email protected]

gibberish from Cartwright: "I announced today that as a next step, the University has engaged a national fund-raising consulting firm to conduct a feasibility study to gauge interest and capacity for a fund-raising campaign for renovation of the Ice Arena and endowments for the hockey program."

Just make a decision and live with it!!!!!

Because of what was written in the article, I'm assuming he has given it to Dr. Cartwright and the university's chief financial person, as he told us he was going to do this week. It probably won't be released publicly until after the Trustees meet next Thursday. I haven't seen the actual report, but many of the recommendations that are going to start up were things he talked with us about in great detail.

JACK VIVIAN FOR PRESIDENT!!!

FALCON HOCKEY FOREVER!!!

Stall, Stall, Stall. Bottom line, if some big donors don't step up and fund the program, it's gone. They can do 100 studies, but it all comes down to raising $15 million or more. I don't think it will happen. Not trying to be negative, just realistic.

I think the talk about the Miami model speaks volumes about what was in Jack package.
First and for most a new rink, the extent of of renovations needed to the facility means a new facility would cost les, and that in turn would be bait enough to bring on in a new coach ( as Im sure there folks chomping at the bit to be a bgsu coach, but fearfull of the situation) NEw rink brightens the eyes of the top recruits.
We are looking at more than 15 million.
The financial situation is not that bad, or inconceivable esp when the plan is released, it benifits both donnor and the program emensly, in a unique plan.
August will surely come quickly, and the future of the rink and ultimately the hockey team will be announced. Expect better than anticipated news on this.

You just make stuff up MACMAN. The $15 million I was talking about was for the program, not the rink. So let's say that by some miracle they come up with $15 million to fund the team, where do they go to raise the minimum of $10 million they need to keep the rink usable for the next 10 years? I'm talking usable, not even upgrading anything.

Sorry MACMAN time to go back on your meds.
We can not raise $ 30M for a new arena,

Jack wants $8M for the arena:
1.5 from Randy Gardner
4.0 that the Univ promised ( personally I doubt it)
3.5 we need to raise from key donaors and local contributors

$ 8.0 M

he also wants $ 4M to endow schoarships:
$ 4,000,000 x 5 % = $ 200,000 annually = 10 or so scholarships

a. we will have funded the scholarships ( U can go stuff it )
b. we will have said that $ 200,000 of University money can now go to other scholarships for other programs. Sounds like the Ohio Lotto;

Hopefully Jack, Ron, Jerry, Marcia Latta and concerned citizens can raise much more than 4.0 + 3.5 for the building and 4.0 for the program.

I'm glad you aren't my accountant.

You would need just 2.5M raised from key donors.

MACMAN, we will NOT get a new rink. All of Jack's discussions with our community committee involved upgrading, improving, and/or adding to the existing rink.

Falcon Fanatic is correct (as usual :) ) ALL of the discussions with Dr. Jack have a serious upgrade/renovation to the old building. NOTHING is being discussed about having a new arena. First of all, it's not a possibility money-wise. Secondly, where are you going to put it?? You can't knock down the arena to build it in the same spot, due to the fact that the current arena needs to be used while building this mysterious "new" building. I'd say that any info you may have gotten MACMAN is erroneous at best.

Dr. Jack has been AMAZING keeping the community committee "in the loop" so-to-speak. He has met with us numerous times and I can't say enough about my opinions of the man. Since I had never met him before, he was some mythical creature, a photo on the wall of the arena or in the media guide and he's just...there are not words. No matter what the doubters are saying...I BELIEVE in Dr. Jack.

The Miami model is being used mostly because A) they are a MAC school. B) they have become VERY successful C) Dr. Jack knows of the model VERY well and D) They are almost fully funded by an endowment, which is what BG should shoot for.

Uh...Puckhead...check your math! :) Mr. Financial Advisor, are you doing the shell game financials too? :)

GO FALCONS!!

Very interesting information from the President and the AD. Miami's program was very, very down (more than once I believe) and Miami was in a simliar spot. Old and, in their case, quite small arena- really a one sided ice rink. Not very successful on the ice for several years and examining alternatives in terms of sports/budgets.

The model or plan which resulted in the fine arena in Oxford and some endowed funding for Miami hockey came, as listed elswhere, in response to a targeted campaign to alums, former players and friends of the program and university. The campaign was designed to literally save the program. And the response of the alums etc was quite wonderful. A key donor led the way and many others committed some larger gifts. An even larger number contributed at other levels. The result nealy culminated in a national championship this year. Just couldn't clear that puck!

Dr, Vivian's group looks like they have really laid out some great plans/ideas for the arena and the program.

The plan needs the same type or level of support that Miami saw in Oxford from alums, former players, and friends. That is what must happen. There are certainly many BG hockey backers out there.

Go Falcons!

little thing called Bonds as for 15 that is bare min guess needed to make all that happen with a plan for more to follow etc.. Its really quite simple right now, its a big deal, or its bust, and the answer is only weeks away.
