Tomas Petruska, 23, and Kai Kantola, 21, of Bowling Green and Reed Rushing, 21, of Seattle, Wash., were cited for open containers of alcohol.

I don't think anyone has a problem with anyone who can legally drink doing so. But if they were cited for open container then they were drinking where they shouldn't have been.

Don't try to make this an issue of hockey players just enjoying a BEvERage over the summer. This is a totally different issue.

hopefully not much is done, they were "cited" for an open container, not arrested, they're of age to drink, they obviously were respectful to the police since no one got arrested, but were drinking in the wrong place, i.e. probably stepped onto public property.

Let's start checking to see has traffic tickets on the team too!

Honestly, it could be something as stupid as them stepping onto the sidewalk leaving a party before completely finishing their beverage. And seeing as how there's no motor vehicle, disorderly conduct, prohibited alcohol content, public intoxication, etc involved, it's not that big of a deal.

I like these guys... heck I know these guys, I'm not saying get the pitchforks I'm just saying that it is in the public eye so sadly something has to be done hopefully it is just something minor like extra sprints or something of that nature.

The guys will pay their fines, and any other sanction/punishment Willy doles out is none of our business.

making a big deal about this absolutely absurd.....as anyone can read in the blotter all of these gentleman are of age and it is 2 months before school is in session and 3 1/2 months till season starts.....like sbk said this is just a situation of being in the wrong spot....as said before they will pay there fines and obviously were not an issue or else wouldve been arrested.....the fact that this was even posted is kinda ridiculous IMO

That's a pretty minor transgression, in my opinion.

They'll still need disciplined but it's still a pretty minor misdemeanor. However, once the season starts these kind of things need to disappear. You can't give the University anymore reason to not support the program. We got to have good students, good community members, then good athletes. Like Brandon, Pooch wasn't a disciplinarian. Set the rules before the season starts and make the consequences severe enough where they'll stay out of trouble.

its like this in my eye.
1. yes they are all legal age to drink
2. they all broke a law
3. they are all paying a civic fine for that
4. the lack of any other infractions leads one to believe they took what they earned and were respectful to the officer(s) who nailed them

5. off season or not, these players are enjoying a privilege, the privilege to receive an education in exchange for athletic performance. They can and must be held accountable at a higher level than the average student or person.
ITs not like they were caught with a dime bag, or busted for chasing down and beating the crap out of some one, which should be cause for instant dismissal from any program. they got busted for beers on the public domain, some serious community service is in order.
If some how this violates team rules ( which I can not believe getting ticket would not be) then they must be held accountable to those rules and if it means dismissal then that is what must be done, no exceptions.
College athletes can and must held to highest standards.

sum1udontknow... sorry my bad... I just thought I'd share what I saw about a few players on the team in the news... I appologize I'll never mention anything like that again...


Give me a break, its the little things like this that can lead to bigger problems, look no farther than football. What I'm saying is so long as it isn't swept under the rug and the boys have to fulfill some sort of punishment then it is a good thing for the program. People need to be held accountable for their actions. I understand that they are of age, great so am I but being cited is still breaking the law. Their punishment isn't any of our business you are correct but they should know that it isn't acceptable behavior for a varsity athlete in the public eye.

Like I previously stated, I don't mind them consuming, in fact I've interacted with them at the bars before so it is not really a surprise to me, however I was just saying that they were in the blotter, nothing more nothing less so get off your damn high horse.

I always thought open container laws to be silly and stupid for the most part. This is a non-issue.

Yup, open container strictly enforced ... except for tailgates, tractor pulls, and other events of economic importance.
