9,991...
9,991...
That is the current number of people in the "Save BGSU Hockey!" Facebook group. For comparison sake, that is greater than the fan groups for the football, basketball(s), baseball, softball, and volleyball groups combined...three times. A special Thank You to everyone who's joined and passed on links to the group. The BGSU Hockey family is as strong now as ever thanks to people like Dr. Vivian, The Galley's, the Community Committee, and every Falcon out there. Our fight isn't close to being over, but we're finally starting to see some light at the end of the tunnel.
Does anyone else think the Vivian Ice Arena has a good ring to it?

I actually feel the most appropriate name for the arena, could be
Alumni Arena. They are the heart and soul of this program, its never been about one player, or one man, its a perpetual team effort, and each year that team gets larger and stronger and their commitment never waivers. I can think of no better way to honor that commitment, to the team and to the university.

Re: 9,991...
Since this whole mess was brought to the forefront last spring, I have thought it should be named the Cooper-Vivian Arena for Sam Cooper and Jack Vivian. I really do like your idea of naming it Alumni Arena though; and your reasoning really nails the perfect reason why!!!MACMAN wrote:I actually feel the most appropriate name for the arena, could be

"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

Re: 9,991...
Why shouldn't they just name it whatever they want? It's not like some corporate sponsor would have to be bumped or anything. If we're not going to get any money from naming rights, we might as well name it after the man/men/women that are fighting the hardest to keep the hockey program alive and well!

Renovations simply maintain the status quo. We need to build a new arena and commit to elevating this program!

Re: 9,991...
I believe that Jack Vivian is asking for someone to step forward with a large donation for the naming rights of the building. He has mentioned that he wants to give naming rights for many things connected with the ice arena renovation. I'm sure that there will be a new name for the building, along with names for other things/rooms in the arena. I do, however, enjoy the discussions we've been having regarding this! The very fact that we ARE discussing this says we've FINALLY moved in the right direction in this whole process!!

Re: 9,991...
i've always thought it should just be called 'the nest'...it's simple and gives off a good home advantage feel...although the food place in the union and the beijing olympics have somewhat claimed those names i suppose

A simple way to raise 1,000,000.00 would simply be if each of those members donated 100.00 in the name of Save falcon hockey
200 would be better in an attempt to match the University.

10,001 was the last count. Hopefully when we hear what the fundraising group has come up with we'll be able to use those 10,000 people.

Re: 9,991...
I don't hold much hope that friends of friends of friends on facebook can be counted on to donate significant money. How many of those people are on there just as moral support?
I love people who can laugh at themselves. It saves me the effort.
Re: 9,991...
A big majority of the people, including me, in that group are college students so i wouldn't count on recieving any donations from them. i can barely afford to mcdonalds much less giving up a hundred dollarsMACMAN wrote:A simple way to raise 1,000,000.00 would simply be if each of those members donated 100.00 in the name of Save falcon hockey
