The Chargers officially requested to join the conference and replace UNO. With the hopes of BG keeping its hockey team improving :D , they look to have a good shot.

With UNO going away this wouldn't surprise me a bit.

Even though UAH would bring some of the same travel costs/problems that UNO brought to the conference, I wouldn't have any problem whatsoever with them joining the CCHA. Not only are they more regionally coherent with the rest of the conference being East of the Mississippi, but it would also be a way of keeping a college hockey foothold in the South. It isn't going to be feasible any time soon, but I would one day like to see college hockey expand it's geographic footprint, and I like UAH being involved to help prove the viability of the sport in non-traditional regions.

The trip to UAH is going to be shorter than one to UNO.

From everything I've read and heard, this is pretty much a done deal but I still wouldn't be surprised to see a travel provision but on UAH.

I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case, either. Even though it would be a shorter trip, for the Ohio schools in the conference alone it would be a 7-9 hour bus ride, at least. That becomes a very, very daunting trip for schools like FSU, WMU, LSSU, etc. Still, I don't think it would be too bad if there was a travel provision placed on UAH, and it seems that the school is willing to make all concessions necessary to join the conference. Win/win, I suppose.

It's Tuesday and I haven't seen anything about this yet. I think you're all a bunch of liars. :-D

The difference in travel daunting? Grab a map, BO. You do remember UNO, right? CCHA schools have been travelling there for years.

The only school which should have a gripe about the difference in travel would be NMU.

BG to Huntsville: 564; BG to OmaHA! 705

Sault Ste Marie to Huntsville: 929 Sault Ste Marie to OmaHA! 900

South Bend to Huntsville: 538; South Bend to OmaHA! 546

Marquette to Huntsville: 969; Marquette to OmaHA! 767

Well, you pretty much proved my point for me, and I didn't even have to do the leg work! :)

That point, of course, being that it is a trip that is just as long to Huntsville for most schools in the conference as it was to Omaha (with the exception of the three Ohio schools). Drew and I were talking about the necessity of a travel provision for UAH, I agreed that it would probably be necessary, and that UAH would probably be agreeable to it. It was at this point that you jumped in, attempted to make me feel stupid, and did some unnecessary mapquest searches.

UAH was denied entry into the CCHA, I just received an e-mail notification of it so I thought I would share that.

The official statement on the CCHA's website gives no reason whatsoever for this decision. I can't imagine the headaches this will cause the schedule makers. I wonder if they will still have clusters or make it so that you play everybody three times.

Here's the official press release from the CCHA.

Personally, I'm rather disappointed in this. Either they think that Alaska will be following UNO out of the conference or they don't have much hope for BG. Plus, I think this burns the bridge with UAH. If they wanted to just wait, then it seems logical to me that they'd have just not voted on it at all until a later meeting.

Wow. This could be a death sentence for UAH.

I think there is some "behind the scenes" stuff going on.

Penn State anyone? I believe the CCHA may have an eye on the Ninny Lions program going Div1.

Huge financial backing, Eastern presence, easier travel in comparison.

Discuss.
