Folks, I think I may have stumbled on something really cool, and for almost nothing! I was on Ebay the other day and I saw this rather non-descript BG jersey for sale. No nameplate, so alot of people were staying away from it. Anyway, long story short, I won it for the princely sum of $56. I did some research on it before I started bidding and talked to the seller. Seems he bought it years ago from a place called the Detroit Hockey Company. I actually have acquired a few jerseys through the years from them, and I know they are reputable. Got it yesterday, and to say I was a little excited is an understatement. I'm almost positive I have an authentic Ian Duncan #24 home jersey from either 1984-85 or 85-86. Under the size 54 tag is a tag with a 5 on it. Which would stand for 1985, so I would assume it's 85-86. The jersey is hammered with stick and puck marks and a ton of team repairs. Plus, there was definately a nameplate on it at one time, you can see the outlines. Here's some pics of it, just go to page 4 and you'll see it. Be sure to look at the pic at the original size and you can see all the wear and repairs. Just click on the pic and then at the bottom there's a symbol that looks like a magnifying glass with a plus in it, click on that. This is way cool. Sometimes you find really cool stuff by accident.

Oh, you seriously suck!
That was my freshman year and Duncan was my favorite player. I am so jealous.

That's pretty cool.
Along similar lines, I found a hockey jersey in the BG Goodwill store back in November of last year, and while I have no delusions of it being an authentic game worn jersey, I've always kinda wondered about whether it was just a fashion jersey or if it was a practice jersey or maybe a jersey from one of the club teams, basically, just what in the world it is. It doesn't really matter too much to me, because I only paid about $2.75 for it, and since it's orange and says Bowling Green on the front, I'll continue to wear it periodically, but I do still kinda have that curiosity about its origins.

Given the Pearl Gas on the bottom it looks like it may have been a youth hockey jersey.

actually I take that back, in looking I thought that might be an 81 jersy which would have made it Brian MaC's, however yours has the curved Bowling above the Green and that first came out in 1983-84 season and lasted untill 1986-87 when the lettering changed which in fact makes that a Duncan JErsy.
The repaired ripes in the left sleeve surely have a story, Ill ask him when I see him in a few days.

Must have been a big kid. It's at least the equivalent of an adult XL and fits me pretty big.

Yep, youth hockey around here goes up through about 9th grade when they choose to play HS or Juniors if they're good enough. Most of the jerseys at that level are adult, but they're also sized to fit over pads so you need to take that into consideration. I've seen my share of large 14 year olds, though.
Besides, Pearl Gas has sponsered a lot of youth hockey teams in BG over the years....

Jim, do you guys know where you could get a nice BGSU hockey jersey altered? I have a nice #22 Ben Geelan jersey but it is WAY too big for me. I'd love to wear it but it looks ridiculous on me. Any suggestions on someone local who could do this? Hope you guys are well. I am psyched for hockey season.

Derm, cool that you got a Geelan gamer. Like Rick said, .."cringe" if you want to alter it. It is a rule of thumb in the hobby that you never alter a game worn jersey. In fact, you never wash them either! That kills their value to almost nothing. I don't want to sound like I'm talking down to you Derm, because it's clearly not my intention, but hockey jerseys are supposed to be big. That's the only way you can have your elbow and shoulder pads fit comfortably underneath them. Cookie has a couple of jersey's that go down to her knees! Trust me, you won't look ridiculous wearing it, you'll look like everybody else wearing one! Look forward to seeing you at the games!!

So, I learned something today. Thanks for the lesson. I never knew that. Cookie's jerseys always look like they are brand new. My apologies to the board for being totally unaware of this rule. Look forward to seeing you guys soon! Thanks.
