Yeah, I'm wondering too. I guess everyone went to the football game after the hockey game.

Here's the box score just in case you guys haven't already seen it, http://www.bgsufalcons.com/documents/20 ... pdf?id=295" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; . Strange to see that Kyle Page took 2 faceoffs and Brian Moore took 1.

We beat them pretty good but we always beat these CIS teams. This game obviously doesn't hold much stock as to how the team will look and play in another month or so. I wasn't at the game so I can't give a first hand account of all that happened.

The Falcons looked solid today as they should have against an exhibition style team. First and foremost very impressed with Wade Finegans play and I have believed all along with the right opportunity he is a fantastic hockey player when playing his role....he looked very good on the PK today and as well as the offensive side of the puck. On another note the Gauthier hit on Solway is completely uncalled for. I understand that this is competitive hockey and guys are getting geared up for the season but in an exhibition game you have to use your head and that hit in a game that doesn't count could very well mess with our program. I have no idea how long Solway could be out for or what his situation is but I believe that a hit like that is unecessary for the status of the game thats being played. In closing, the Falcons looked solid today.

From my view, the team didn't look bad. We're a lot bigger this year, but we also seemed to be lacking speed. Most of the penalties we're because guys got beat. There's a lot of offensive potential from these guys and the powerplay looked good for a first game. There was actually someone in front of the net to screen the goalie. These guys are gonna get better as the season goes on. Hopefully some guys will be able improve their speed as the season goes on.

I thought in the first two periods we looked pretty good. Great energy and I was impressed with some of the freshmen play. I was a little disappointed that we were a little sloppy in the third period. But these are things the team can work on.

I was also impressed with how Coach Williams ran the bench. He seemed really into the game and I liked how he was interacting with players coming off the ice. Looked to me to be very hands on. Big difference from Paluch who seemed to just stand still for much of a game.

I really hope Solway is OK. That was a nasty hit he took. I hope he doesn't miss any time!

I am really glad the season is here and after watching the team today there is a lot to be optimistic about.

I too, liked the energy on the ice!!! I also loved seeing someone parked in front of the net!!! So awesome to see the guys get their first win!!!

How many people do you think were there? I liked seeing so many students show up!
"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

The line combinations looked pretty good, none of the defensemen made you shake your head wondering what they were thinking, the goalies looked pretty good. I'm not sure what happened on the goal Eno gave up and Hammond's first goal was a flukey thing that he stopped but it rolled up over his shoulder and into the net.

They did look a little flat in the third and the timing on passes was off. But it was the first game with minimal practice time. They've got 4 weeks and 5 games before the conference schedule begins.

I say no way is this a last place team.
I love people who can laugh at themselves. It saves me the effort.

My thoughts... First the goaltending, Eno looked solid in net, he played the first half and Hammond played the second half. The first half of the game was basically 5 on 5. The second half was all special team play. Both teams got plenty of work on the power play, penalty kill and even 4 on 4's and 5 on 3's. Overall, I thought we were much faster then the Canadian team and we had more overall intensity. Sorry, back to the goalies, both were solid and I thought Hammond looked exceptional, I mean really good.

The forwards seemed eager to get to loose pucks and they did not shy away from the physical play, even some of our smaller guys. The freshmen forwards looked outstanding, with Pageau's speed really standing out. Friesmuth, is small but very fast and tough on the boards. Samuels-Thomas looks huge and he seems to have a very heavy shot. He had several excellent scoring chances. Solway looked very good and confident right up until he got smoked by Gauthier with a late hit. Already mentioned by someone else that it was cheap. I hope Willy's brother explains how plays like that can affect the long term stability of his brother, and could even lead to US team not wanting to play the Canadian schools. Dee looked excellent, maybe the strongest forward for us. Played strong on both ends of the ice. Finnigan scored two goals and really skated hard. Kantola looked very big and strong, he looked good with the puck and seems like he could score some goals. Perkins, and Boyd stood out for their tenacity and quickness.

Defense, Paige looked outstanding, he played a lot of minutes. He scored and he had some big hits. Definitely the Strongest Dman on the team. Krelove, played a lot of minutes and both he and Paige seemed to be training the Frosh Dmen. Rushing and Grover played a lot and both seemed to play well at times. Moore and Macintosh played together most of the night and seemed to play well together. Overall, the defense played well but struggled on the penalty kill and sometimes seemed a bit lost in the dzone at 5 on 5.

Stars of the game

Finnigan; Paige; Hammond

If I think of anything or if I made some mistakes recalling the game, just correct them.

I agree! This team has a lot of potential. I don't see this team finishing last (I don't think Williams will let them).

The turn out for the game was good, though I hoped to see more people there. Not bad for a free game that wasn't really publicized.

Spectator,
For the most part, your assessment of the game was right on. However, and I may be not liked for saying this, but I don't think Eno looked that great in net. Granted, I watched the game walking around the arena everywhere ( I was taking photos), but he just looked sloppy. Missed a couple of easy glove grabs and handled the puck poorly behind his own net.

Our new goalie looked great. Had some amazing saves and also missed opportunities, but he was solid overall.

Overall, we did a great job, but we lack speed, and that may hurt us in conference play.

Todpav, I hope nobody faults you for having an honest oppinion. I agree that Hammond looked very solid and seemed to know where his rebounds were going to go. He has huge upside. He could easily be the number one goalie. I am curious as to where you thought we lacked speed? Overall I thought we looked faster then the other team but I may have missed what you were seeing. I don't think anyone will be offended.

Our power play got beat by their penalty kill twice... due to speed. But, these guys were much bigger than we were (as is the rest of our conference). We've got quite a few fast skaters, but we just seemed to not be running on full cylinders yet. This is just from my vantage. I spent the first period watching from the press box.

We'll get it together. In no way shape or form are we a last place team. We've got a decent season ahead of us. I'm excited.

Yea, your right we are in the hunt and it is very cool. I remember us getting beat on the pp and giving them some quality chances, speed was a factor, but I think positioning was a bigger factor, I believe both times that I saw that happen, it was a forward at the point and they did not take the proper position while the other team transitioned. Did you feel overall that we had good team speed? I am curious, I know that it is hard to judge after one exhibition game, but what the hey, we might just as well discuss.

We got beat getting to loose pucks and getting back to our zone. The team as a whole just doesn't seem as fast as last year. It was great to see the style of play, but to be sucessful at the D1 level we'll need a lot more speed.

We're gonna see one of two things happen this year. A lot of high scoring games at both ends (8-6, etc), or we're gonna adapt a more defensive trap style of play.
