Spratt Released
Spratt Released
When the coach say the other goalies professionalism and worth ethic stood out over the other goalies that is not good.
First pro camp and that is the type of impression you leave. Spratt had a lack of professionalism and work ethic at BGSU.
I heard the Men's leagues in the Detroit area are pretty good.

Re: Spratt Released
Wow. If anything, I figured it'd be his talent level that would hold him back, not his work ethic. This should put to rest any idea that he's going anywhere in hockey after college. When you play in college for four years and never post a .900 save percentage you're probably not heading anywhere in the pros anyway.
At least he stuck it out for four years here and got his degree. Hopefully he can do alright in whatever he does down the road.

With fans like the original post, who needs enemies?

Re: Spratt Released
Flanagan said he and assistant Jason Spence put a lot of thought into the backup goaltender spot. Having to choose between Connelly, a University of Wisconsin product, and Spratt, a former Bowling Green goalie drafted by the Calgary Flames, was not easy.
“It was probably the toughest decision we had to make,” Flanagan said.
“Shane’s professionalism is one of the things that really stood out to us. His work ethic.
“His skill. He’s a real calm goaltender. He’s real sharp in the net with his movements and his angles.”
Coach speak. The coach was looking for positives and that was the best he could come up with. It's not so much a knock on Jimmy as it is trying to name some positives for the goalie he kept. The Calgary Flames picked Spratt in the seventh round of the 2004 NHL entry draft. He played four seasons at Bowling Green.
“Spratt is a real good kid,” Flanagan said. “His movement in the net was very good. That’s his biggest plus. Jimmy very easily could have been our backup as well. It was a tough decision. It was a confidence thing.
“We were a little more confident with Shane in the net and that led to our decision.”
Admittedly, I was never really a Jimmy Spratt fan. But what the Original Poster is trying to convey here is completely off base. Keep digging.

In order to build this program back up to greatness we must refrain from unnecessary assaults on former players. If you didn't like how a Falcon played for four years then just be happy he's graduated and moved on.
The more Falcons that go pro and remain pro, whether very successful or just as a role player, the stronger our program will appear to recruits.
Those who wish for a speedy revival of this program will start to paint the picture of success. Time to put some orange color glasses on and get behind the program by supporting Falcons present, past and future.

I proudly chose to be a Falcon and a Falcon I will remain until the end.

Very well stated!!
"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

The comment about being calm says a ton, more than the work ethic or professionalism, not that JS is not a calm person his style of playing can at times be anything but calm.
While Jimmy was drafted, the NHL is loaded with outstanding goalies right now, The feeders are loaded, it will take an exceptional goaltender to make the next level, that is just the way it is.
We are filling our stable, we have Eno getting back into the form that could have made him #1 last season, we have Hamond playing awesome, just signed Galley and the team has a line on two other top ranked goalies that want to come to BGSU after that, one may commit for 2011 this year. Not to mention the energy building about this program and as things happen more will build and that enthusiasm will rub off new recruits and we will be able to capitalize on that strengthen this team in every aspect of the game.

Re: Spratt Released
first of all questioning Spratt's work ethic and professionalism is a joke. the other guy was mentioned but that doesnt mean anything about spratt...flanagan isnt going to go into extreme detail in comparing the two...he just meant that connelly was better....second of all Spratt split time with connolly evenly in the only game he played and gave up no goals and connolly gave up one however Jimmy got realeased because of the talent level connolly played against in college compared to spratt.... They took the wisco guy because hes a bigger name since it was that close of a competition....Ive talked to jimmy recently about it and it had nothing to do with him being unprofessional or his work ethic.

Where I thank you for bringing the news, the manner in which it was presented is a bit snarky and uncalled for. I don't remeber any statement against Spratt's work ethic when a player for BG.jhockey wrote:When the coach say the other goalies professionalism and worth ethic stood out over the other goalies that is not good.

I read the article and without getting into VIN diagrams, I would ask you to post a retraction.

Re: Spratt Released
Not cool dude!
I've seen Connelly play and he is also a very solid goaltender! the coach said it came down to confidence when you win 34 games over two seasons on a pretty good the University of Wisconsin team vs. Spratt's record and the team he was on the past for years, under pooch- the casual hockey fan can see there's naturally going to be a difference in the level of confidence. (something that should be greatly improved for future goalies such as Hammond and Eno in this new age of BG Hockey!!)
I dont see where you got that idea from an article with quotes such as:jhockey wrote:When the coach say the other goalies professionalism and worth ethic stood out over the other goalies that is not good.

Hopefully Spratt will stick it out maybe find a spot on another ECHL team or on a CHL or IHL roster.Spratt is a real good kid,” Flanagan said. “His movement in the net was very good. That’s his biggest plus. Jimmy very easily could have been our backup as well. It was a tough decision.
