Samuels-Thomas Named Rookie of the Week by CCHA

Post by BGDrew »

"BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -- Freshman forward Jordan Samuels-Thomas has been named the CCHA Rookie of he Week, as announced by the league office on Monday, Nov. 16. This is his first conference honor of his young Falcon career.

Bowling Green’s leading scorer earned the honor after a weekend that featured a four-point weekend in a two-game series with No. 10 Alaska. He scored the game’s opening goal on Friday, Nov. 13 en route to the team’s 3-1 win over the Nanooks. The win marked the Falcons’ first win of the 2009-10 season.

The following night, Samuels-Thomas posted a three-point evening in a 5-3 loss. After falling behind 3-0 in the first period, Samuels-Thomas again began the Falcon scoring effort with his second goal of the weekend while on the power play in the second minute of the middle frame. He assisted on both of David Solway’s scores in the same contest as Bowling Green began a late comeback effort that fell just short.

The three points he posted on Saturday night was his second multiple-point game of the season. Samuels-Thomas has now scored at least one point in five of his last six games. He one of five players with a conference-high five goals scored, has a share of the lead in freshman scoring (1.17 ppg), is tied for third in conference scoring (5-2--7), and fourth in power play goals scored (2). The rookie now leads the Falcons with ten points on a team-leading five goals this season. He also has the second most assists on the team with five.

Bowling Green returns to the ice this weekend for a home-and-home series with No. 16 Michigan. Game time Friday is set for 7:35 p.m. inside Yost Ice Arena in Ann Arbor, Mich. Saturday, the Falcons will play a home game at Lucas County Arena set for 7:05 p.m. Ticket purchase information will be released on BGSUFalcons.com shortly."

"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."
