anyone who loves the sport of Hockey, really needs to take the time this year to go see something special.
you need to go see St. Francis play. This is and will likely end up being one the best HS hockey teams. A very special group of players, with exceptional talent. There is not a team that matches up with them on an indvidual bases, yet alone line by line. Are they beat able, you bet anything can happen and often does, esp in HS hockey, but its really not likely, these kids many of whom have played AA and AAA, are to smart, to skilled and just to fast.
this weekend they walked all over University School, Lake Catholic, and Elyria Catholic.
At any rate, I am not a St. Francis fan, but I am a fan of good hockey, and this team is great, and fun to watch.
Friday night they play Sylvania North view. It will likely a tighter competition than the above 10-2 blow outs were, and with the touch of rivalry as well it will be interesting. Just an FYI, Im sure the game will be on BCSN so you may be able to DVR the match with coming to Tamoshanter.

To my knowledge no one has ever jumped from white division to D1, not that it could not happen, but the reality is for Ohio HS hockey players is that roughly one player every 6 years goes on to play in the NCAA ( no one has made the jump from HS to the NCAA in several years, over 10 in fact) ( next year could produce some exceptions as there are roughly 5 players in that class in the state who if they were playing D1 prep would go straight to the NCAA, but being in Ohio is not doing them any favors. We are very fortunate that 4 of those prospects are here in NW ohio, and all four will be playing this Friday night at tamo inthe NV ST Francis Game)
2 Every 7 years go to play Major JRs, and when excluding bottom tier Jr programs and those who go to try and make something happen, when looking at those who go on to play other Jrs numbers are not much better.

Ohio should have two HS hockey classification and separate championships, and allow those Champions to go on and compete in the Nationals. But we all know hockey is an over looked sport. In actuality, the state Athletic association really needs to create a separate association strictly for the over seeing of HS hockey, so as to keep pace with the times and sport.

While I love our FAlcons, family comes first, so I will not be able to attend the game, I will have my ear plug in as always and listen as the action unfolds.

. I wonder how that competition would compare to AA or A level. I know that back in the day when I played, Varsity High School was roughly the equivalent of Midget AA, with Midget AA being a little bit better depending on which teams you were comparing and where they came from.

Ohio HS Hockey and St. Edwards High School did produce borderline NHLer/4th Line plug Mike Rupp though , http://www.nhl.com/ice/player.htm?id=8467336" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; . He did score the game winning goal in the NJ Devil's game 7 Stanley Cup victory in 2003, which happens to be his one career playoff goal. Pretty opportunistic guy I guess.

Miami also has two players right now who played Ohio HS, Trent Vogelhuber played for St. Charles Academy in Columbus and Alden Hirschfeld played at Sylvania Northview. I think Brett Molnar played for some Toledo high school team, if anyone remembers him.

This particular division of HS hockey would not fair well at all against A let alone AA. As an indvidual he could play AA, but he has no support on his team and they will likely fall in the first round of the HS playoffs, which is why Ohio needs to revamp the whole of HS hockey creating two classifications and two separate championships, its not fair for the schools like Perrysburg that have huge swings in numbers and talent to be asked play against a BGHS, ST johns, St Francis, Nv View and get mercy ruled in the first period each year.

Just thought I should point out that this St. Francis team played our own Hometown Bowling Green Bobcats and came away with a 3-1 win. In that game the BG netminder stopped an insane 65 of 68 shots on goal......lets just say I believe the edge in goalkeeping should go to Bowling Green!!!

If we're talking about good hockey why not take in the Club team who's ranked #10 facing the #4 Kentucky Wildcats? Friday's game is immediately after the Varsity game with Saturday's coming at 10:15p.

this is the same goalie and BG defense the shut out Northview, while I dont know the shots on goal from that game, I will tell you that as in the BG ST Francis game the gross majority of the play was in the the BG defesive zone. This kid- hes what a Freshman? 6'2" 200lbs is not a flashey goaile either, he is big and smart and just has great positional play. Should BG beable to restore thier Offense play next year they will have a very good team. AS it stands, if they can keep scraping out and getting 2 goals a game, there is serious potential that they could easily upend a St. Francis or NV again in the playoffs when it really matters. Taht Bobcat goalie may well be on his way to being remembered in 4 years as BG's best goalie in school history. Bg can finish the REG season in 4th if they can get some offense going.
