Bowling Green Gets Worldwide Olympic Mention (Not 80 Team)

Maybe this is posted elsewhere but the Olympic hockey broadcasting team includes Mike "Doc" Emrick along with Ed Olycyzk. During the very exciting Russia-Czech game, Olycyzk mentioned that "Doc" could thank "Bowling Green University" for that nickname or words close to that. Doc replied along the lines of "A lot of great folks there" and carried on with the call.

Emrick has a PhD from Bowling Green in Communications (1976).

Go Falcons!

Yep... I heard that too! That's the third time in about as many weeks I've heard Eddie and Doc mention BGSU. We get a lot of mention on NBC when they're calling the games.

tpav, that's great! I had not heard that before, but I often am not listening too closely.

Looks like we have a good alum to talk to.

Go Falcons!

If I remember correctly Eddie O. was very close to coming here to play hockey, before turning pro. That may have a little influence too.

Maybe if hockey ever got better TV ratings then those things it would get shown on NBC

The rest of the U.S. games are scheduled for NBC, although I think they're all 3pm starts if they get to the gold medal game, Wed, Fri, Sunday (hopefully).

Was I really owned, here are the hour by hour numbers that NBC got last night showing its mix of different events

http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox ... unday.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

7pm 18.6 million viewers, 10.6 rating
8pm 25.35 million viewers, 14.0 rating
9pm 24.7 million viewers, 14.0 rating
10pm 21 million viewers, 12.6 rating

It also doesnt help that the Stanley Cup finals draw like a 2 rating on NBC and get crushed. Until we as a country support hockey on TV all the time, especially major hockey events like the Cup Finals, the games will be relgated to the MSNBCs of the world during the Olympics.

Now these games should be on NBC as its now the tournament part, single elimination, win or go home, with the medals on the line. I would be upset if these games were stuck on NBC, pool play I don't care what channel its on along as I get and can find said channel, but now, all US games should be on the top channel

I don't get MSNBC, so yes, I care. I couldn't even watch it online. Have to log in to your cable/dish provider to verify that you can get the channel at home. Hello, why would I watch online if I could watch on my TV???

If you want to watch an event and you have MSNBC you should feel lucky that it's not on NBC. Too many commercials, too many sappy human interest stories and too many cut-aways to other events back and forth on NBC.

MSNBC seems to have fewer commercials and a whole lot less of the nonsense interruptions.

Got another mention during the US - Finland game.... Doc mentioned that a US player played for Michigan St, and that MSU was holding a viewing party for this game before their game vs Bowling Green!

Maybe we can get Doc to contribute some $$$ to the Bring Back the Glory campaign. I do like all of his references to Bowling Green, but I am sure most people are thinking (A college in Kentucky plays Ice Hockey)
