With the date of the scheduled start of the Ice Arena Renovation having passed, is anybody else slightly concerned about the complete lack of details from the University? What I mean is, with the recent major projects (Stroh, Wolfe) there's been official ground breakings and renderings available without much searching. Even searching the entire
http://www.bgsu.edu website it's difficult to find much information about the Renovation, let alone any details. We know the major elements are the ice making equipment, the gutter system, and converting the curling ice for miscellaneous use. But is that the entire $4million? Or are other major changes planned inside the arena?

From the "Ask the A.D." on the athletic department site you will see lights and that, if I understand correctly, is the cosmetic change you will see.

And they're taking out the studio ice in the back and putting in I believe two new lockers rooms, and then making the curling ice all-purpose. I don't think any chances are coming to the main sheet or the stands, press box, etc. until they raise more funds.

While I'm glad the University has stepped up and supported keeping the hockey program, I'm still not convinced that it is very high on their priority list. Maybe it will be a gradual renovation that will take some time to complete compared to Stroh or Wolfe but it still just doesn't seem like their hearts are into this project.
It doesn't make sense to me that our university will put so much money into football and basketball when the only sport Bowling Green could ever have an impact in nationally is left to wither on the vine to die a slow death.

This athletic administration has basically decided to "gut and kill" almost all of the sports other than football and basketball with their budget cuts, whether they are successful or not. I wish I had the time to go thru all of the sports and their records since the current administration has been in place, but I don't. What I do know is that the departments win-loss record overall is down right horrible, and is getting worse as we speak! It really is time for the Board of Trustees and President to do something about it.

my understanding is that as part of the new ice handling upgrades, the floor pipes are being replaced and upgraded as well!

Well, I hate to say it, but if it's such a dead horse, could you please point me in the direction of the announcement where the bid was awarded? Even the
Recent News on the Bring Back The Glory site doesn't have anything since December 17. No news from a major fundraising campaign in three and a half months? Something's just not setting right with me.

The renovations are set to begin as soon as the Ice Arena shuts down for the year...stop worrying.

The Ice Arena shutdown Monday, fyi.
All I'm saying is that a few more details from the University would go a long ways with a lot of people.

I'll agree they could be a little more forthcoming with information but there isn't anything sexy about new pipes and compressors.

it IS an opportunity to communicate and promote - showing positive progress with the program and the facility . . . and the use of OUR tax dollars at work.
Seems pretty simple and important even it it's not the glamour part, it shows we are committed and moving forward.
(I hope?)

Carol Cartwright doesn't care about hockey.
