Bergeron Presser And Thoughts

Here's a link to the video I grabbed of Bergeron's presser. Warning: it's nearly 20 minutes long.

And now a few thoughts:
- There were a few notable coaches who attended the event including Louis Orr and Curt Miller.
- Bergeron seems like a pretty intense guy.
- Recruiting is one of Bergeron's qualities.
- Apparently Christopher and Bergeron had been in talks for awhile about the job...possibly for the last month.
- It wasn't said but I would not expect any of the current staff to be retained.
- Dr. Cartwright indicated she was "actively" involved in the hiring process.
- Christopher indicated that there were 6 finalists for the job
- He kept talking about being a champion in everything (in the community, in classes, on the ice, etc.).
- He has not spoken to Williams yet.
- Christopher has now hired 3 out of the 4 revenue sports at BGSU.

And now just a note on Willy:
When this whole thing gets turned around and we're looking back at what almost happened you will be able to point at Dennis as being the foundation that helped secure the team. He took over a situation that no one wanted with a smile and an overly positive attitude even when it would have been easy to get down. From what I've heard Dennis won't be back next year but he'll always be a Falcon and I'll always pull for him in whatever he decides to do. But now it's time to throw our support behind Bergeron and see if he'll be able to hold on to our recruits.

Nice recap, Drew. I'll post some intense photos shortly.

My thoughts, well some of them anyway.
Dr. Cartwright, and Christopher clearly, with out hesitation: A. Get the importance, dedication and alliance to Falcon Hockey. B. Are fully committed to our program. They are excited about the success of the Bring back the Glory Campagin. Some-many of our most notable alumni are in support of this coaching decision.
Chris has is well versed on the history of our program beyond what I would have expected for some one with no ties to our history, and his enthusiasm is contagious.

Who knows this guy may even get the University to get the school colors back on the uniforms (orange and brown.)

On being a champion: "You can't turn that off on and on. I'll be a champion on the ice and I'll be a champion in the community, but I'm not going to be a champion in the classroom. Not acceptable. That's not acceptable. You will be a champion in everything you do or you won't be part of this program."

Yeah ... I'm impressed so far. Welcome and best of luck, Coach Bergeron!

Am I missing an inside joke here, or aren't both of those colors on both of our jerseys?

I didn't take the time to listen to the presser as of yet, but I heard him speak on 1470/106.5 The Ticket, with Norm Wamer, at 4:45. In the 10 minutes he was on the radio I WAS IMPRESSED! Norm also said that he will also be on the Face-Off Hockey Show on Wednesday @ 6. I will not be around to listen to that but I am hoping they archive that interview because like I said, I was impressed with the 10 minutes he was on the radio today.

One thing he mentioned on the radio was that when he arrived at Miami, Miami ice arena, financial situation and recruiting was far worse that what BG is today. He was responsible for recruiting the talent they have today and turning around the culture from losing to winning at Miami. He also mentioned that he is going to try and contact many of the 1984 Championship team and speak with them. He is talking the talk, now lets see him walk the walk (or skate the skate)

Not that this is a fair comparison, but the last new coach I heard talk like this was Urban Meyer. Let's hope he has the same success, only all of it here.

The schools new color for brown is black, and the orange they are using is pretty darn red.

Have you been to a hockey game in the last two years? The orange and black abominations are gone.

Burnt Orange and Seal Brown (which is a very dark brown) are the official colors if I recall.

I do believe that the pants were brown this year. If not, there was brown in the jerseys.

Umm... Macman, the trim, shorts, gloves and helmets are definitely brown... have been for two seasons. I can say this with utter certainty as I am looking at one of the road jerseys right now... it was in my dresser ;)

I think the saturation in that photo is off, which makes browns look black and oranges look red. Also, colors display differently on every computer (web designer's nightmare). Trust me, the uniforms have been orange and brown for a couple of years now.

As for our new coach, he certainly is talking the talk. I wish him nothing but success in his hopefully many years here at BG. Although I feel for Coach Williams, he was hired as an interim, and he should be proud of the way he led this program through the season. He did what he was supposed to do, and I think we can all agree that he did so like a champion.

He is very proud of what he did here, but as usual, he gives the credit to everyone around him; from the assistant coaches, to the seniors, to all of the players on the team, and even the fans and the athletic department staff! He is truly leaving "like a champion" as you put it. As I said in the hockey banquet post, he is a total class act. I am so proud to have him as a former player and coach of the Falcon Hockey team and wish him all the success in the world. There isn't anyone who deserves it more than that man for what he's done here this year!!
