Exhibition Game

Thoughts on the Exhibition game?

1. Love the new lighting. Liked that they turned them off and used a spotlight to introduce the team.
2. I noticed that Wilfred Laurier don't use full faceguards. Has this always been the case with these Canadian teams?
3. Lobby looks great. Was hoping to get into the new arena but it was locked.

Thought we played well in the first and part of the second period. Kind of sloppy in the third. We were comfortably up 4-1 and then hanging on at 4-3. Thought we got caught in a few too many odd man rushes. We definitely have some defensive issues to work on.

Love the old style jerseys. They look great. Can't wait for this weekend.

Go Falcons!

I wasn't able to make this game due to my softball league, but I'll be there this weekend for some photos of the new Unis.

My impressions from exhibition game.

The team:
*Solid first period, helped along by a very undisciplined WL penalty.
*Sloppy play in the attack zone led to far too many odd man rushes, especially as the game went on.
*Impressed by hustle from 24/Mohler, 11/Finegan and 17/McIntosh.
*Coach says intensity and attention to detail are keys to success... both need to improve between now and Friday or we'll get creamed.

The opponent:
*WL showed tremendous heart, and higher leval of play than we're used to seeing from the Canadian schools.
*I dont know if this is some sort of trend or just a freak, but SIX D1 schools LOST exhibition games to Canadian and other lightly regarded teams: Ferris, Northeastern, UMass, LakeSuperior, Vermont and Denver all lost, while NewHampshire got tied.

The Uniforms:
*As much as I would like to have seen us stick with a logo long enough to get established as a recognizable brand, I think they look real sharp!
*My only complaint is the brown background on the the players' names. Makes it tough to read from a distance... especially with 10 freshman, lots of new names to learn...I missed alot of play while looking down to the program to match names to numbers.

The building:
*The mini-rink looks fantastic! Thanks Dr Vivian for insisting that this be a central piece in the package.
*Lighting over the ice is a tremendous improvement.
*I still long for the day when we'll actually be able to hear anything the PA says. The music was so loud during intros even the players couldnt hear when their names were announced.
*I miss the banners. Hope they're only missing because there hasn't been time to put them all back up.
*The new US flag looks fantastic...but allowing the dingy, faded Canadian flag to stay on display is disrespectful. I plan to stop by IA today or tomorrow and offer to buy a new one at my own expense.
*Hard to imagine why...while there was skaffolding up and personnel available...why nobody bothered to clean the 40year accumulation of damp dust off the cold air return vents. Looks like hell, and cant be good the the effeciency of air flow.

Canadian schools, Jr.s (USA and CA) do not require full face shields. It is argue by those leagues, and the NHL that a full face shield actually leads to more wreckless play and that players who come from NCAA prgrams are responsible for more face injuries than none NCAA players who do not wear them. It is an issue under discussion for change, and I feel we will see the change come back to the NCAA. I think it was 78 or 79 when players had to start wearing them.

Good hockey and its only going to get better, Im looking forward to league play!

I noticed the same thing in some of the pics folks had posted of the renovations. While I love the classic "rafters look" of the banners that were in there, maybe they're doing something to replace them, like they've done to the baseball dugouts. We've seen some awesome work with full-size graphics, that would be awesome to see something like that wrap around the open end of the arena.

I'm pretty sure the "accomplishment" banners are just being washed. I can't think of any reason other than that to take them down? I wouldn't expect to see the CCHA team banners return.

The sound system is very high on the list for phase 2 of the renovations.

I would like to see the Olympic Banners back, but heard they may be doing something similar to what they have for the BIG CCHA "sign"/banner that is up now. If it is as big and bright as the CCHA banner, it might be pretty impressive! Overall...VERY pleased with the improvements, especially the lighting!! Agree that the sound quality....STILL SUX!!! :?

GO FALCON ICERS!!!
SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEP DUH WEASELS!!!!!!!!!!!

I guess I'd have to see what they decide on but I'm a bit disappointed we won't have the banners up anymore.

I don't think a decision has been made yet, just ideas that were being tossed around. And I agree...I thought it was awesome to see all those Olympic banners hanging there.

who knows maybe they are going line area under the stands with all our greats, and their accomplishments....a Falcon hockey hall of hero's if you will.
at any rate what ever it ends up being I m sure it will add to the over all game day experience.

That would be great if they did something like that. I know they are our rivals but I do like how Michigan, Miami, and Sparty have it set up, honoring their former great players and teams

We have a lot of that in the lounge area on the north side of the arena. However, it would be nice to see some stuff like this out in the ice area.
