Rob Blake to Return for Bring Back The Glory Fundraiser

Post by BGDrew »

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Stanley Cup champion and Canadian Olympic gold medalist Rob Blake will return to BGSU and the University’s Ice Arena November 6 to support the “Bring Back the Glory Campaign.”

Blake, an All-American defenseman for the Falcons from 1987-90, will be the guest of honor at a fundraising reception hosted by the “Bring Back the Glory” campaign before BGSU’s hockey game against Notre Dame.

Everyone is invited to the 5 p.m. reception at Mileti Alumni Center. Tickets are $25 or $100 per person. The $100 ticket includes a $75 tax-deductible gift to the "Bring Back the Glory" campaign, an autographed photo of Blake and recognition of your donation at the event. Launched in October 2009, the campaign’s goal is $5 million to endow scholarships and enhance the Ice Arena.

Blake will also be honored at the game. Faceoff is at 7:05 p.m.

As a fourth round selection by the Los Angeles Kings in 1988, Blake joined the team in 1989 for the first of his two stints with the Kings. Most recently with the San Jose Sharks, Blake announced his retirement from the National Hockey League after a tremendous 20-year career playing for three teams over that time.

Blake won a Stanley Cup championship in 2001 with the Colorado Avalanche after joining the team mid-season and registering 19 points during a 23-game playoff run. In the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, Blake played in 18 games with Team Canada en route to winning a gold medal that year. He also played on Canadian National hockey teams in 1998 and 2006.

He was inducted into the BGSU Athletics Hall of Fame in 1996 on the first ballot and is a certain consideration for the NHL Hall of Fame upon achieving eligibility.

To register for the reception, contact Lisa Mattiace at 419-372-6780, or at [email protected].
