The Big Chill is today. I believe it'll be on the Big Ten Network for those interested.

I believe FoxSports Detroit is also covering and will likely have better announcers.

I wonder how much money UM is making off the event after expenses? Its almost completely full. That's about 50 home games for us.

Well I remember reading back in October that students had to pay for this game so no free tickets to this game. Cheapest ticket was 22.00. So the very minimal alone on ticket sales would be 2.5 million. Not sure about parking but when I went to a football game they charged 30.00 to park and then concessions. I would say they made at least 4 million on this game. MSU takes 30% of proceeds so Michigan makes at least 3 mil and MSU makes 1 mil. Obviously much more if they have higher ticket prices.

Would been nice if BG played Michigan. I think it would still draw 110k, and BG could have used that 1 mil payout towards renovations and scholarships.

I bet the next outdoor game will involve Penn State.

One thing that I would have liked to see is have the Wings-Canadians game last night be played there. Arena was already set up. Been nice to have 2 of the original 6 play in front of 110k. I think the NHL and Wings dropped the puck on that one.

Michigan probably had to pay very little to put on the event. They had a ton of sponsors who most likely covered most of the costs associated with the event.

Did you see how bad the ice surface was? It couldn't have taken two games in two days.

I was thinking the exact same thing, what a cash cow this became for their athletic department. In the days of fighting for peoples attention and getting them to come to mid-major events, not knowing what the expense for this would be could this be done on a smaller scale at the doty with BG hockey. Though maybe a few years away but if you draw 18,000 to 22,000 fans plus parking your well over a $250,000 at $10 a ticket (given the price wouldn't raise for this type of an event). Schedule it against a non- Big Ten team and maybe you wouldn't have to pay them the 30% michigan paid michigan state.

This has been talked about at Ohio State but they don't want to copy Michigans ideas. Creative ideas to get fans to games often what it takes today.

That would be awesome, but I doubt we'd draw more than 8 or 10,000 fans. We'd have to play a big name team, and we'd have to really market hard. Plus we'd have to get a lot better to even make it a remote possibility.

Interesting how some want an out of doors Hockey game and others say
move the FB games to earlier in the season so it's not such 'bad' weather.

Huh. :boggle:

Go for a multi-game format. Say an OSU-UM, BGSU-Miami double-header. However you'd have to be able to sell the game on some level beyond just BGSU hosting somebody. Maybe an expo game with a set of NHL teams, or minor-league teams, etc.

Honestly I think the same thing could work at Ohio State, if anything, I think the challenge of exceeding UM's attendance would be key.
